Cebu mayor shot outside poll office (11 a.m.)
Sta. Fe, Cebu town mayor Rogelio Illustrisimo was shot dead in front of the provincial office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Wednesday morning after attending a disqualification case, police report said.
Two gunmen shot Illustrisimo at close range. Police are now looking into the incident and considered local politics as the possible motive.
Domingo Zaspa, the political opponent of Illustrisimo in the mayoralty race filed a disqualification case against the former mayor on the grounds of threat and intimidation.
Illustrisimo just attended the disqualification case at the Comelec provincial office when he was gunned down.
Meanwhile, police arrested one of the two suspects in the killing of San Carlos City Mayor Julian Resuello.
Angelito Soriano was arrested after a shootout with local police. He sustained a gunshot wound in the leg is a now being treated in a local hospital.
Resuello was gunned down while attending a coronation inside the San Carlos City gymnasium Saturday night.
