Question: Nganong ang Archbishop sa Cebu nga si Arch. Palma wala pa man mahimong Cardinal nga mas naguna pa man sya kaysa ni Cardinal Tagle of Manila pagka arzobispo?

FYI: their are only 7 Filipino Cardinals; 3 are alive.

    1. Rufino J. Santos (decease)
    2. Julio R. Rosales (decease)
    3. Jaime L. Sin (decease)
    4. Ricardo J. Vidal
    5. Jose T. Sanches (decease)
    6. Gaudencio B. Rosales
    7. Luis Antonio Tagle

^^ what i know man gud kay Cebu and Manila are the only archdioceses in the Philippines that are Cardinalatial Sees, meaning whoever heads these 2 archdioceses becomes a Cardinal. I also know for a fact that the archbishop of Manila is the primate of the Philippines, meaning it is customary for the Pope to elevate whoever he appoints in the Archdiocese of Manila into the college of cardinals because being the primate archdiocese means it is the head the Roman Catholic Church in a country. For Cebu, it is not a primate diocese and so it is unique because it is not traditionally a Cardinalatial See as compared to Manila but Cebu was given 2 succeeding cardinals by the Holy See beginning with the time of Pope Paul VI wherein Arch. Julio Cardinal Rosales was elevated to the college of cardinals because the Pope recognized the important role of Cebu has the cradle of Christianity in Asia where Catholicism first spread in Asia. After the death of Cardinal Rosales, Pope John Paul II appointed Arch. Ricardo Vidal as archbishop of Cebu and surprisingly he also elevated Cardinal Vidal into the college of cardinals thus making a non-primate archdiocese turned into a Cardinalatial See. I believe it is only up to the Pope to determine how many he wants to elevate into the college of cardinals because the church is growing and for the archdiocese of Cebu being a Cardinalatial See, whoever heads the archdiocese need not impress the Pope for him to become a cardinal because the position itself already reserves him the title maybe not now but later.

yeah but di pasabot nga dapat jud na nila himoon ug cardinal... kay as far as i know sa they are all bishop den naa ra sila'y mga special role sa church but it doesn't mean nga ikaw ang mo handle sa manila or cebu automatic nga himoon ka nila ug cardinal... 1st Filipino cardinal is not from metropolitan of manila nor cebu but from guagua pampanga.

really? I don't think so. The first Filipino Cardinal heads the Archdiocese of Manila Rufino Cardinal Santos. Why were you thinking about Pampanga? Yes you are right, he hails from Pampanga but he was just born there so dili pasabot ang Pampanga na maoy naay first Filipino cardinal. I was talking here about the archdiocese a cardinal is appointed not the place where he came from. I repeat, it is only the archdioceses of Cebu and Manila whose archbishops traditionally become cardinals in the country. So bisa'g Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilokano, Waray, Ilonggo, Bikolano, etc pa ka, if you were appointed by the Pope to head any of these 2 archdioceses in the country, ma-cardinal gyud ka eventually. FYI, most Filipino cardinals were never natives of Cebu and Manila but they were made cardinals because they were assigned to these 2 archdioceses except for one, Cardinal Tagle is born in Manila and is the archbishop of Manila.

    Archdiocese of Manila
    1. Rufino Cardinal Santos (Pampanga)
    2. Jaime Cardinal Sin (Aklan)
    3. Guadencio Cardinal Rosales (Batangas)
    4. Luis Cardinal Tagle (Manila)

    Archdiocese of Cebu
    1. Julio Cardinal Rosales (Samar)
    2. Ricardo Cardinal Vidal (Marinduque)

    Roman Curia, Vatican City
    1. Jose Cardinal Sanchez (Catanduanes)
