Default Re: Wireless LAN Solutions for Hotel - iStorya ta diri

in my experienced pinaka dako nakong na agi-an na deployment sa WIRELESS 55 ka AP. high ceiling and and na-a pay mga air-con vent and partition wall. so medyo challenging gyud when it comes to channel interference and bandwidth consumption ddto ra namo gi daog sa controller tanan and active survey using air magnet to make sure when deploying we covered 90% signal coverage connectivity.

ako ra ma advise do active survey first and asa ang priority area nga daghan ang tawo and daghan mo connect mao nay cguro-a.. kong sa basic pa nga installation or binogoy na istorya unaha gyud ang office sa manager kay mao nay mo reklamo ngano hinay iyang signal/connection/internet...ang kanang uban madala ra na og istorya later. hehehe...

unsa may pinaka-nindot nga brand, model, ug cheapest but good performance and quality....? Share lang ta ninyo bai, Salamat
before ka mo decide sa brand or model boss e consider sa neh og una kaning 2 ka requirements

    1. Network Design/Diagram
    2. Application

then pede naka maka pili og at least 2 - 3 brand/model nga mo work sa imong requirement then from that e consider na dayon nimo ang mga pricing kogn gamay ra og ligas and ma ayong og feed back nga brand then you decide...

I agree with monrose on the pointers... add lang nako ni boss sa requirements for most building infra requirements

    1. Network Design/Diagram
    2. Application
    3. Building Structure (Materials used in Walls, Ceilings and Partition)
    4. Coverage Area (Open / Close) (Small / Wide)
    5. Distance between AP's

Importante kaayo na ang site survey before putting a decision on what brand (which are points 3 - 5)

I'm working here in Singapore for an SI company. I have deployed wired and wireless network for schools, hotels and commercial spaces. Total number of AP's i have deployed for 1 site is 450. Usually managed by a mobility and a wireless controller. To give you an idea, I will site some establishments below to give u a better picture on their setup:

    1. International School A1
    - 3 Controllers (HP MSM765)
    - 450 AP's (HP MSM410 and MSM422)
    - SSID's
    - 1 x WPA2 Authentication for IT Staff
    - 1 x 802.1x Authentication with Accounting (Students and Staff)
    - 1 x 802.1x Internal Radius with Accounting for Guest Access
    2. International School A2
    - 3 Controllers (HP MSM765)
    - 350 AP's (HP MSM410, MSM310 and MSM422)
    - SSID's
    - 1 x WPA2 Authentication for IT Staff
    - 1 x 802.1x Authentication with Accounting (Students and Staff)
    - 1 x 802.1x Internal Radius with Accounting for Guest Access
    3. International School B
    - 1 x Controller (Cisco 5500)
    - 200 x AP's (Aironet 1600 and 1552H)
    - SSID's
    - 1 x 802.1x Internal Radius with Accounting for Guest
    - 1 x 802.1x Internal Radius sync with LDAP for Student
    - 1 x 802.1x Internal Radius sync with LDAP for Staff
    4. Local Hotel A
    - 1 x Controller (Aruba OmniAccess 4704)
    - 106 x AP's (Aruba AP93)
    - SSID's
    - 1 x 802.1x Internal Radius with Accounting for Guest Access
    - 1 x 802.1x Internal Radius sync with LDAP for staff
    5. Local Hotel B
    - 1 x Controller (Ruckus Zone Director 1000)
    - 10 x AP's (ZoneFlex 7321)
    - SSID's
    - 1 x WPA2 for internal staff
    - 1 x 802.1x Internal Radius with Accounting for Guest
    - 1 x 802.1x Internal Radius for Tenants

Usually bro if you don't have budget constraint and aiming for a good wireless management. You should go between Aruba and Ruckus. We usually recommend this brand to our hotel customers. I have bad experience with Cisco and HP when it comes to after sales support.

Na-intriga jud ko sa Ruckus... so ako gi-dial ilang contact number.

Boom! Price sa ZoneFlex Indoor -> around USD 600 !
    Boom! Price sa Director/Controller -> twice sa Flex -> USD 1,200 !

OMG kaayo ang price! Pero maayo jud kuno ang performance!
Nipuno pa'g ingon ang sales person : You pay for what you get!. Of which, i like jud!

By the way Boss, most ordinary AP's and wifi routers karon are dual band naman.

ka cool ani nga topic oi...

TS unsa ka dak.a imo Hotel? Pila ka rooms? Pila ka rooms per floor? Magkano budget natin?

AP brands like Cisco, HP, Ruckus, Aruba are all enterprise grade... mahal jud sila
AP brands like Zyxel, Netgear, Linksys ug InGenius(tingali) mga SOHO grade na AP's, its cheap but doesn't offer all features and ease of management sa mga enterprise grade na AP's

Mo taas mani f i compare each brand further, view this LINK nalang sa tomshardware independent wi-fi comparison. All top enterprise AP brands are there. Para maka pili jud ka. Pero take note mga AP dira mahal jud xa, enterprise grade, future proof, full of features na great for Hospitality.

Here are some questions i ask my client when i do a Wireless Site Survey, maybe it can help you find answers and choose the AP that is right for you.
    1. Do you have floor plan?
-usahay I base location of AP's sa plano f tapolan ko ad2 sa site, but nothing beats an actual Site Survey
    2. Use indoor or outdoor AP's?
-basin imong hotel naay pool nya mga guest nga mag bathing suite gus2 mka wifi, knahanglan sad nato ug pang outdoor weather proof nga AP ani, mas mahal ang outdoor nga AP raba tungod sa iyang mga casing churva2x
    3. Single Band or Dual Band AP's?
    - 2.4GHz or 5GHz or both?
    4. PoE or AC/DC or PoE Injectors for Power sa mga AP's?
    5. Are the selected PoE Switches suitable for the selected AP in terms of power budget?
    - 802.3af or 802.3at? Ug naa rabay mga PoE Switch nga 48 port nya first 24 ports max power per port is 15W, last 24 ports is 7.5W per port provided nga used up ang first 24 ports.
    6. What are the services running on the WiFi?
    - unsa ang trafik ipadagan sa wireless? pde sad purely internet for guest only? pde ipadagan uban data like admin wifi, voice, ug uban pa.
    7. Who will do cabling?
    - the WLAN installer or a 3rd party cabling contractor, if magpa quote ka sa vendor e seperate ang price sa wifi ug cabling, basin diay mas mka barato ka sa laing 3rd party cabling contractor. Naka paet sa separate contractor if naay problema kay separate contractor man ang wifi ug cabling mag tinuodlay ang duha...ehehe
    8. Cat5 / Cat5e / Cat6?
    - Prefer ko Cat6. Pangita sad AP nga Gigport, mga switches nga Gigport karon kay same same nalang sad ang price sa mga Fastethernet ports nga switches.
    9. Range vs Performance vs Capacity?
    - Range, kay as long as naay makita na signal ok na, acceptable RSSI is -70db lower than that lisud na ekonek ang client device, lower than that makita ang SSID pero d na maka konek. So set a range like it has to be not lower than -65 or -70db anywhere I go sa guest floors, lobby and other public areas like functions rooms. Performance, unsa nga standard e implement? 802.11 b/g/n/ac. Capacity, maximum number of clients connecting to the AP at the same time. Ayaw sad e tipid imo bandwidth kay we never know guest in hotel mag torrent diay.

Call ug mga ISP(PLDT/Globe/Eastern), view their wireless solution. Naa silay mga packages all in one for Hospitality like PABX, Internet, WLAN and others.

Suggest lang ko if mag deploy kag WLAN ayaw pag tinihik. In a Hotel 95% of Guest prefer wireless over wired. Good ni xa provided nga imong WLAN is 99% uptime all the time, that needs a reliable AP brand, good planning, a reliable contractor naay on call nga mga engineers, ug experienced pud nga contractor.

I also work for an SI company here in Manila we have a Cebu branch pero mga taga Manila engineers ghapon ipadala para sa big WLAN na project. Our WLAN deployments include Hotels, Resorts, Casinos, School Campus etc.

In my opinion if you have the budget go for Ruckus, ma surprise ka what it can do.

    Hope this helps!

up lang.....sa mga ga gamit ug ruckus murag ing.ani ra ako i.implement.

    5. Local Hotel B
    - 1 x Controller (Ruckus Zone Director 1000)
    - 10 x AP's (ZoneFlex 7321)
    - SSID's
    - 1 x WPA2 for internal staff
    - 1 x 802.1x Internal Radius with Accounting for Guest
    - 1 x 802.1x Internal Radius for Tenants

    TIA!
