I thought kite flying is illegal around airports.

Kite string? Ano po klaseng kite string? Industrial-strength, titanium, super-cable type of kite strings?

Eh ang gamit naman na kite string diyan sa mactan eh sinulid lang, threads sa pananahi. Surely a helicoptor's rotation should have more than enough torque to rip wool/cotton/nylon threads to shreds. It had enough force to get the helicopter, with the crew inside, off the ground.

Kite string? Come on.

That's what's surprising... and what gives some credibility to the kite string theory. According to the latest Sunstar, they DO fly kites in Mindanao when there is a major military operation.....

That means no autorotation happened?

i think accident jud to cya on part sa helicopter dili kay tungod lang to sa tabanog...unsa ra gud tawn na nga hilo ang gihigot sa tabanog nga maka pa crash ug usa ka helicopter....i hope ila pa ning palawman ang imbetigasyon dili kay mo deretso lang ug conclude nga tabanog maoy naka pa hugno ato...

WHO flies kites in Mindanao during a major military operation? The Abu Sayyaf? The rebels? Para dili makaduol ang mga Huey helicoptors for ground reconnaissance and air support to field troops?!

Gosh, is that why the Philippine Military are having a hard time resolving the Abu Sayyaf threat?

This is my humble opinion. A grave tragedy has occurred here and people died, and of course we would want to know the reasons why such an event occurred. So as to prevent another to happen again.

For me lang it just sounds so lame that authorities are placing the plausible cause of the accident on kite string. It just appears to me that they're passing off liability on the careless, carefree pastime of civilians.

If it was engine trouble, or pilot error now that that seems more plausible. Either way, engine trouble or pilot error, there is no shame unless it was mere negligence on the part of the helicopter personnel. Perhaps they did not follow protocol and ensure the safety of the aerial vehicle during pre-flight checks.

Now, I just wish that our military should show more responsibility and maintain some dignity at least.
