^^ of course! load all apps you can think of on that measly 512MB and see if your phone won't freeze, be laggy... or worse...goes into a infinite loop by itself (out of memory!)
on a 1gb... there's a safe marginal threshold and confidence on your part that at least if ever you play some HD games... you can be safe and confident that your phone can handle it...as compared to using half of it's ram size only
