Hello,
just sharing my recent experience regarding usb device installation.
I tried to install a usb printer... printer not detected... did all the advanced steps with no luck
Finally i reinstalled windows, then the usb printer installation succeeded following the regular steps.
My conclusion: I had installed something before the printer that conflicted with it...
Next time I run into problems installing a device, I'll give it 30 mn and if it doesn't work, reinstall windows.

actually the problem about the printer is just a minor bug, dont need to reinstall the whole OS, just unplug all the usb devices, uninstall the usb drivers, reinstall the usb drivers, then plug the usb devices again, that should work.

mines a different problem, the os did not install the usb 1.1 drivers to begin with.

Go to driverguide.com and download their driver guide toolkit software then install and it will detect all the necessary hardware you had on your computer. after which you can download a specific driver of your any hardware. Try it! As i've tried it's not that really 100% reliable but it really helps.
