San Fernando among top PH 'trailblazers'

    Wednesday, February 6, 2013

THE City of San Fernando continues to make it to the roster as one of the most progressive cities, as it was named sixth among the country’s Top 20 Trailblazing Cities.

This was disclosed by Levy P. Laus, Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. chairman emeritus and Laus Group of Companies chairman and chief executive officer, who said the city was included in the list by the University of Asia and the Pacific Economic and Business Club.

“It was during the Year-End Business Economics Briefing forum at the University of Asia and the Pacific that we noted of the City of San Fernando being in the list of the country’s Top Ten Trailblazers and only one in North Luzon. It was ranked sixth among the most progressive cities, or ‘trailblazers’ as called in the report,” said Laus.

Laus told Sun.Star Pampanga the city earned the spot because of its high indexes in economic and business activities, “blazing the trail” and serving as “a driver of economic growth” in the Philippines for 2012.

In the report entitled “2013: Even More Fun in the Philippines,” the City of San Fernando’s economic and business activity index stood at 0.5539 point, topping such cities as Iloilo, Sta. Rosa, Antipolo, Lipa, Angeles, Baguio, and Olongapo.

The report, which was personally relayed by Laus to Mayor Oscar Rodriguez, further noted the City of San Fernando reported a total of P12-million in real property tax and P238-million in business tax for 2010.

“This is indeed very encouraging and motivating for us in the business sector, especially the city is in the heart of Pampanga. Being a trailblazer means that everything is being done by stakeholders properly,” said Laus.

Rodriguez said, “We are very happy of the good news. We are likewise proud that the city is on the right track of its roadmap judging from these two new reports. We thank everyone for joining us in this journey as partners and stakeholders toward that unified direction of progress,” he said.

Topping the UA&P list of cities with the highest economic and business activity index are Davao City (0.9752 point), Cebu City (0.8444) and Bacolod City (0.6173).
