i never needed KIES nor use ODIN to root my S2.

here's what i did. upgraded and rooted.

1. Upgraded to Official JellyBean 4.1.2 via Odin ( i posted the torrent file on the s2 thread)
2. flashed PhilZ kernel( it comes with CWM) via stock recovery. Rooted.

running wanamlite rom XWLS8 V14.0 on my s2.
