YOu cannot say nga kung algae ra ila kaonon dili sila harmfull though some plecs also have been observed to attack other fishes
Most fished have the eggs or spawn in the riverbed, rocks or crevasses but not well hindden enough sa plec
Plecs are also scavengers and not only depend on algae but kung unsa naa sa ilawn sa sapa or lake nga salin2x ila kaonon

And bai if your an aquarist gyud familiar gyud siguro ka about ecosystem and kabalo ka maka tip-off na sa balance esp another species not belonging to that certain eco-system.

Ni mention ka sa tilapia nga protective na sila but they'r no match sa plec esp with its protective outer bone or protective armor.

I was an aquarist before starting when I was just 12 and I have that common plecostumus. Also we have separate tanks for cichlids. And another tank for mostly south american fishes---discus, tetras and some catfishes i.e. (not piranhas)

So I'm not stranger to cichlids and just in case u dont know that Tilapia is not a native specie in the Phils or in southeast asia but being introduced to our rivers and streams to augment the source of fishfood and livelihood.

Better read up bro and u can't just base a fish is not harmful to the ecosystem because its not aggressive

I dunno about this plecostomus or commonly known as janitor fish if wala ba ni gi outlaw or gihimo illegal sa DENR or sa BFAR
kay it has devastated Marikina river has been infested na slowly working it's way to Laguna as last nako nahibaw-an which is dugay na.

Ang naka pait kay highly adaptable kaayo ni sila ang no natural predators hence wala'y control ang population.

And it's not viable as food source pa gyud.
