Here's a suggestion.. why don't you guys record at mediatrack and have it mixed at backyard??

By the way, what recording software/interface does mediatrack use anybody??
i wanted to record there before.. my band was offered to record there for free pero we just loved mikmik so much..

You know what, even if i were in a superstar band and was given a recording deal worth millions, i'd still have the guitar tracks recorded at backyard and have the entire thing mixed at backyard.... that's the extent of how i trust mikmik...
I see...that was a very catching advertisement. But isn't Mr. Doug Wells also a Sound Engineer trained in the US? Better ask Mediatrack regarding their software. I know it but I respect their privacy.

Don't worry @CuJo we will try Backyard Studios. I heard a lot of "positive" feedbacks with Backyard. But we will visit Mediatrack First

Zzubu found in Acacia St., Lahug Cebu City. Just bring a dozen Red Horse bottles for Poldo, the engineer, and you'd have a GREAT time recording with him.

Backyard Studios also in Lahug, Cebu City. Meet great musicians there and taste their great food too.

MediaTrack (formerly Starmaker Studios) in JM Basa St. has great equipment. I guess the owner there is still Mr. Doug Wells.
Naa ka contact numbers ani nila?

I'll send you a PM with their contact numbers as soon as I get them. With regards to Backyard Studios, you can send a PM to Cujo.

Our recording studio will probably be ready in the middle of this year. The owner will be leaving the country and I asked her to buy the necessary equipment there.

    Here's my story..
Ive tried a lot of studios here in Cebu since the Mutya, Salonga and Jam73 days.
Manila recordings were far much better those days.
Then I discovered Phoenix Glide, it sounded good enough, it was around 1998 I think, theyre using that VHS ADAT system, in a condo uptown..
Then I came across "Backyard" in 2000, I can finally recreate the sound in my head, I got hooked there, micmic can relate to my tastes. Then everybody wants to record there, oh well, might try other studios, I went back to PhoenixGlide, now theyre in Labangon and also PC based like Backyard, I still like the Backyard heaviness, I went back but seldom got a decent time slot coz everyone still wants to record there. Time flies, a lot of studios mushroomed in the metro, only Zzubu came close to Backyard in terms of the sound I wanted. "Starmaker" sounded like "Mutya". Both of them have top of the line equipment. I just cant understand why. I just cant understand why Backyard, the most underequipped studio that Ive been to sounded much better. So, I tried just recently to book a schedule there only to be turned down again coz months & months have been booked ahead! So if youre "Backyard" curious, FORGET IT! Try other studios...

    Thank you so much Uzer!

And I also heard from the camp of Mediatrack that Backyard is not a sound proof studio.

@Cujo!!!, can you defend the "sound proof" issue and about Uzer's disappoinment??/please!

Hmmm... With regards to the rumours of backyard being under-equipped and not totally soundproof, i would say that it's totally true. BUT what backyard lacks in room soundproofing and acoustics, it totally makes up by the most brilliant sound engineer cebu has ever known (and i can stake my reputation on it, i dare say!).. Mikmik, the sound engineer has the most unorthodox methods, sometimes going against the advice and opinions of more veteran sound engineers..

Backyard's problem of not being totally soundproof only affects tracking when another band is occupying the "practice" studio in the next room and band recording is tracking a vocal track or recording a "live" accoustic track... However, i've personally seen mikmik remedy those types of situations countless of times... Moreover, backyard has been criticized in the past for not having the most "acoustically-perfect" recording room, however, mikmik has different software plug-ins that simulate different types of room ambience... That definitely takes care of that... However hardcore analog recording enthusiasts would most probably disagree with me by saying that simulators of any kind don't sound like the real thing, but that's another argument meant for another time....

With regards to Uzer's complaint that the studio has been booked months ahead, well, sad to say, that is true... However, there's no harm in going to backyard and talking to mikmik to find some kind of arrangement.. Tell him about your band's situation and how urgent is the need to record... You never know, booking cancellations happen often enough and you might finding yourself recording earlier than expected...
