I heard that Majarlika was intended to be a name for the islands during the pre-Spanish period back when Indian culture was prevalent in SEA. Marcos also advocated Maharlika as a replacement for Philippines according to some sources.

Personally I prefer the original name, "Filipinas" but its no big deal either way.
