i guess that puts them sh*t out of luck...and needed to be combed...
which again begs the question what kind of criminals are jailed and what kind seems to uncannily manage to stay out.

the idea of, and support for vigilantism is a reaction to an inutile law enforcement with a double standard favoring those who have clout and power, a double standard that that vigilantism is not immune to. whatever social inequities it tries to correct it only glaringly makes obvious, since more often than not, vigilantism is encouraged by those who are in power as a show that "something is being done" against criminality, when obviously it only targets a certain kind of criminal.

vigilantism, the idea and the support, will not flourish if both the law and its implementation is fair to everyone: rich or poor, powerful or powerless. vigilantism is a symptom that poses as a solution. and you do not cure symptoms: you cure the problematic cause.

Good morning sir gareb. Now.. on this specific issue on "baktin" the carnap-murder king, do you consider Duterte's actions as a form of vigilantism? and to what extent?

basta kaming taga davao. inig mugawas mi tunga sa gabii, among kahadlokan lang kay kung makasugat mi ug ungo. (sus halloween pa raba karon).

katong mga tarong nga mga tao nga dili muangay sa pamaagi sa among vice mayor, i suggest you try living in davao. maski 1 year lang. basig dili namo ganahan muhawa after a year

but katong mga bugoy2 nga mga tao nga dili muangay sa pamaagi sa among vice mayor... hala padayon mo sa inyong gibati, padayon inyong reklamo. ayaw lang mo ug puyo diri sa davao kay basig dili napod mo kahawa (in one piece)

@yokam888, please explain your side as a pure davaueño kay daghan sa ato mga fellow istoryans they really cannot grasp and understand how the Davao City LGU works on peace & order. Somehow i can relate to what you're saying coz i always spend like a week vacation in your city every 2-3 years. In my lifetime, i have met and eventually became friends with more than a hundred Davaoeños and ALL OF THEM have the same sentiment as you...

Also if sir Rodsky can drop by here and share his knowledge about Davao, maybe he can enlighten us..

Duterte's action encourages vigilantism. he has repeatedly and officially denied being any part of the so-called "Davao Death squad" to wash his hands clean of what they do. but he has not officially denounced them or made efforts to hunt them down, going even to as far as praising the decrease in street crimes as a supposed result of the vigilante killings (something that copy-cat Osmeña wanted to replicate here in Cebu during his time).

it makes you wonder: if they really want to curb criminality and punish criminals:

    • why try to do it extra-judicially by encouraging vigilantism, and not by strengthening the rule of law?
    • and why focus on more visible street crimes, rather than on high crimes which are not readily visible but whose damage are at most ten-fold every time they are committed? political pogi-points and double standards?

Maypag kanang 5 million nga bounty ky e gasto nag special training sa mga Police sa Davao nya e upgrade ang mga equipments, vehicles, weapons and etc. Tapos daghanon ang mga roving Police... I think Duterte's method works(to stop crime) but I don't like it. Criminals are also human. Who the hell is he to take someone else's life?

its all been done sir. central 911 done, police visibility everywhere, top notch police vehicles and equipment are currently being upgraded.

as per my previous post, dont criticize the way davao is being handled by our vice mayor until you experience living in our city yourself. its easy to react kung nabasa ra nimo or nakit-an sa tv. if you actually live here, you will really appreciate what the duterte's have done. limpyo ang davao halos dili ka makakita ug kalat na basura, disiplinado mga tao, dili ka iladon sa mga taxi drivers, kung musuroy ka tunga sa gabii makauli paka sa inyoha with complete gadgets and accessories, if you are a non-smoker guaranteed dili ka maka inhale ug 2nd hand smoke from public places and public transport. etc.

its slowly getting more and more like singapore really. with the way the duterte's are handling our city, investors are pouring in... 2 na kabuok among sm mall, the 1st sm mall in ecoland was just expanded, abreeza/ayala mall is already expanding, s&r is currently being constructed, new hotels are popping out like mushrooms, high rise condominiums are also popping out like mushrooms, tim tebow (from the NFL) is currently building a children's hospital here. etc etc etc.

if you lived in cebu (or any other city) all your life, and havent tried the davao lifestyle, then i think you cant fully understand the concept of the dutertes.
