To those who are not familiar,here is wikipedia's definition
Hermeticism is a set of philosophical and religious beliefs based primarily upon the writings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus. These beliefs have influenced magic traditions and further, the effect of serving as a set of religious beliefs. Whatever the effect of the beliefs, they stem from teachings and books accredited to Hermes Trismegistus, who is put forth as a wise sage and Egyptian priest, commonly seen as synonymous with the Egyptian god Thoth.

In Islam, the Hermetic cult was accepted as being the Sabians mentioned in the Qur'an in 830 A.D.

Hermetics has been practiced by famous ppl like Issac Newton, John Dee, Robert Fludd and probably by early Freemasons..

..but what's so nice about Hermiticism is that it is open to other religion and, in fact, can be blended with otherer religions:

Franz Bardon (December 1, 1909 – July 10, 195.Born in Opava in Czech Republic. Bardon was both a stage magician and student and teacher of Hermetics. During World War II Bardon was at one point held in a concentration camp for refusing to participate in Nazi Mysticism. Bardon was rescued by Russian soldiers who raided the camp. Bardon continued his work in the fields of hermetics until 1958 when he was arrested and imprisoned in Brno Czechoslovakia. Bardon died in 1958 after consuming bacon which caused his death of pancreatitis.[1] [2]

He is best known for his three volumes on Hermetic magic. These volumes are Initiation Into Hermetics, The Practice of Magical Evocation and The Key to the True Quabbalah.

Additionally there was a fourth work attributed to him by the title of Frabato the Magician, supposed to be a disguised autobiography. Though the book lists its author as Bardon, it was actually written by his secretary, Otti Votavova. While some elements of the story are factual, the majority of the book was written as an Occult Novel with much embellishment on the part of Votavova.[3]

Bardon's works are most notable for their simplicity, their relatively small theoretical sections, and heavy emphasis on practice with many exercises. Many consider him to have written the best training programs of any magician of the 20th century. They were written with the intention of allowing students who wished to practice magic the means to do so if they could not study under a teacher (which Bardon recommended if possible).

been reading his first two books which is available in national bookstore..
the books are very practical and very efective..

After reading this post, one thing that came into my mind... FULL METAL ALCHEMIST. I don't know guys if you've seen this anime before but with the wiki's definition, it's very interesting. Although, they say that this Hermes left his own country and traveled all over the world…; and that he tried to teach men to revere and worship one God alone, …the demiurgus and genetor [begetter] of all things; …and that he lived a very wise and pious life, occupied in intellectual contemplation…, and giving no heed to the gross things of the material world…; and that having returned to his own country, he wrote at the time many books of mystical theology and philosophy.

yes,Agrippa was also one of the early hermeticist famous for a few works..

i also reccomend another book THE ELIXIR AND THE STONE written by Michael Baigent and Richard Leigh ..same writer sa Holy Blood Holy Grail..
..its all about the history of hermeticism with the same blend of conspiracy theories..

hermeticism is a religion? hmmm... i thought it's a school of magik. i don't think we can call it a religion... it's too outdated. there is no such thing as a philosophers stone... it's simply impossible and so far wala pa gyud naka hatag ug evidence na ni exist ning butanga.
