    So this is your rationale?
Concerned kaayo ta nga naa mu protect sa Pilipinas from earthquake, bagyo, economic & financial crisis bisan unsa nalang gituhu-an pero wala gyud tawn nag protect sa Philippines--the land and its environment from its very own people pataka nalang labay basura, putol kahoy diri ug didto, quarry then mag tu-o sila if mag baha gani ang naa sa kahitas-an ang maka-bu-ot or maka protect nato kining nga images?

I mean, tanan lungsod or kapiya naa nmay mga patron karun nya bag o raman na santos si calungsod, so sakto ba ko nga wa pay lungsod or kapilya nga si calungsod an patron?

Nagkatawa ko adto kay nag invite sila ug writer/reporter froom NatGeo nga nag tu-o sila nga mura ra kanang reporter nga ma-diktahan nila just to write something to promote what they want to promote pero they're so naive nga this accomplished NatGeo reporter sees not only what they want to see and saw the whole picture. Nabuking hino-on
Well at least at least this reporter got their names right. hahaha

Was Pedro Calungsod modeled after basketball player Ronald Tubid?

Earlier reports from several websites quoted Father Catalino Arevalo of the Loyola School of Theology that the official portrait of Pedro Calungsod's beatification in the Vatican in 2000 was modeled after basketball player Ronald Tubid.

Tubid, now 31, is a PBA player for the Barako Bull Energy Cola. Like Calungsod, Tubid is also a Visayan and was only 17 years old when he posed as a model for the future saint, quoting Fr. Arevalo, as posted in the Balita.ph website.

"We asked everybody who knew him if he was a good candidate, of good moral character, and everybody said yes. So we used him as the official face of Calungsod," Arevalo was quoted.

Astig Machismis blog in 2009 posted why Tubid was known as "The Saint" during college and pre-PBA basketball days:

"During a game in his first year as a UE Warrior in the UAAP, Tubid was on the charity line for couple of freethrows. A high-ranked CBCP official was watching the game. This official was actually commissioned to look for 'the face' for Pedro Calungsod, the Filipino who lived centuries ago who was ordained to be the second Filipino saint next to San Lorenzo Ruiz.

After seeing Tubid on TV, the church official said to himself, 'This is the face of Pedro Calungsod!'"

But a report from Malaya last August 29 falsified claims that Calungsod was modeled after Tubid.

"There was this talk that the painting was based on a real person of Tubid... it's not true," Cebu Archdiocese Commission co-chairman Msgr. Ildebrado Leyson said in a weekly Church-organized forum.

The report also said the "official denial" will be soon made by Manila-based painter Rafael del Casal, who made Calungsod's portrait for his beatification.

"Del Casal will declare whether he used a model or not. He will write it down because I said it should be documented. He is going to submit that. I'll tell you in advance that he said no, it's not true. He painted it out of his own inspiration," Leyson said.

The report also said Fr. Arevalo told Leyson that it was a pity that Del Casal failed to use Tubid as a model for Calungsod.

"I told him (Del Casal) to look at the painting. He said: 'Sayang they did that one. They should have told us because we have a good model, the basketball player.' If I try to analyze that conversation, it seems the painting came first than using the basketball player as the model," Leyson recalled.

Calungsod was a young sacristan and missionary catechist who joined a Jesuit mission to the Marianas Islands to teach the Catholic faith. He was killed with Blessed Diego Luis de Sanvitores by natives of Tumhon village in Guam in the Marianas Islands in 1672.

The whole nation will celebrate Calungsod's canonization on October 21. He is the second Filipino saint, after San Lorenzo Ruiz, proclaimed by the Roman Catholic Church.
