How to Install/Setup MSATA as a cache?

Mga bossing,

Mangutana lang unta ko kung unsaon pag install ug setup ug msata as a cache?

Naa koy Lenovo Y580 nga naay msata slot, ang akong blema ug unsaon nako pag setup ug install ang Msata as a cache? Kay plano ko mopalit ug msata.

Kailangan pa ba nako e reinstall ang OS ug uban pa? Or mura ra ug plug n play ang msata, unya dungagan ra ug software for caching?

Murag auto detect raman na ig salpak nimo siguro bro... Pero you may need to install IRST (Intel Rapid Storage Technology) nga software or depende pud sa laptop basin naa pay mga settings sa BIOS or what-not...

If the Intel way fails, use the mSATA drive (kung ma detect) as cache drive using Windows Turbo Boost.

autodetect ra mn na bro. pero sa ako nga Aspire M3 (i upgraded to 64Gb), i did a clean install of windows n drivers after nako butangi ug Msata SSD. just install IRST after. youll see the SSD drive detected by the IRST software and not on the cmputer or BIOS.

So I can set the cache size thru IRST?

Sa imoha kaso, sa msata nimo g install ang OS ug g cache pod nimo? Sa akoa unta akng plano 128gb akng paliton nya full size cache nko.

Naa pako usa g kalibgan...for example naa ka software mga permi gamit, which will be likely cached to the msata. nya after a long tym imo na gi uninstall ang software, automatic ba sd ma clear ang cache adto na software from the msata? Or kailangan nimo e manual clean ang cache?

THIS IS ONLY APPLICABLE IF YOU ARE CONFIGURING YOUR SETUP SSD AS A CACHE.

The msata SSD used is MyDigitalSSD 64GB 50mm Bullet Proof mSATA SSD - MDMS-5064.

I have read a number of threads in the net regarding about installation of the msata SSD into their Lenovo Y580. Intel Rapid Storage Tech (IRST) isn't working and it is not applicable to Y580 because the "Accelerate" feature is missing.

Here are the steps below:

- backup all your files and make a bootable disc just incase it will fail.

- Install the msata into the slot. You can access it at the back of your notebook by opening the 2-hole cover at the back.

- set the bios into AHCI and not to compatible.

- Boot into windows.

- download the software "VeloSSD" trial version 2.0.0.7 from softpedia and do not update to 2.0.1.1 or latest version. Note that the velossd 2.0.0.7 works well with my system. However the latest version will prompt me with error. I already asked the support for this software due to the problem I am experiencing.

- run and configure the software, yet the limitation of the software is upto 32GB only. However, when you buy it for $9.99 you can set a larger cache size.

- DONE -


Now with my current setup of Y580, I can boot windows 7 within 35secs based from EE boot optimizer.

My MSATA SSD is only sata 2 version. I wonder what will be the boot time if I will use the sata 3 version...20 sec?

Now I can keep my 1TB with almost same performance as SSD.
