Fragrant Palm Leaves (translation) by Tich Nhat Hanh
i' m not sayng you should, but maybe a review by somebody who'd read it would help.
at the risk of sounding like a blurb at the back page, here's my two cents' worth:
the book is beautifully writtten, it's like entering a world so rich, so imaginative, you'll be immersed in it without you being conscious of it. Miss kostova knows her stuff and you can see that she loves the vampire lore, she writes with the passion of somebody who is so into the story.
interspersed with romance but not so much that it turns you off the whole thing, it is history laced with that pure horror that people who have read bram stoker's dracula would remember experiencing.
i recommend it if you're the kind of reader who loves good-ol fashioned detailed tales that feels like 'once-upon-a-time'...powerful plot, likeable protagonist, an exciting (to say the least) villain--no less than dracula himself--exoctic locales, mystery and suspense, beautiful prose.
