I've made a few updates so it now allows for usage
USAGE again is how much you will charge for someone to use your photo
because you are not giving the photo to them. you are the copyright holder and
are allowing them to use the photo.
say, a local resort that's just going to use the photo for a poster on site will be charged less
than one that will be using it on billboards and international travel magazine ads
this is the example I gave earlier...
the problem though is that clients here in Cebu refuse to reason with that so most photographers
hide it in their photography rates
another thing is to always have them sign an agreement if possible that stipulates
the use of the photos. I usually specify that in my project estimates that photography
will be for so-and-so purpose and have them sign it when we reach an agreement.
always specify terms as well. like you require 50% down payment, down payment
is not refundable in case of cancellation, the client will only be given photos when paid in full, etc...
some also add that the client is given exclusive use of the photos for two years.
after that the photographer has the right to resell all non-proprietary images
these are images that don't hold logos, trademarks, recognizable patented/copyrighted items
these would be what you can now sell as stock photos
and if people are involved in your shoot please always have them sign a model release
some even go as far as to have owners/business mangers sign a location release
