The navies of the US, the Philippines and four other Southeast Asian countries on Tuesday kicked off this year’s Southeast Asia Cooperation and Training (SEACAT) exercises in a bid to enhance their interoperability in addressing maritime threats.
Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand also joined SEACAT 2012, which will be held until Sept. 2.
Navy spokesman Col. Omar Tonsay said the exercises are being conducted in Malacca Strait, Sulu Sea and Subic Bay.
china beware , some of these countries are already getting ready because of your selfish motives in controlling important and vital sea lanes....

MANILA, Philippines – Noting “the ball is on the Philippines’ court,” Japan has disclosed that its plan to provide the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) with 12 brand-new patrol boats has yet to officially take off.
In a text message to the INQUIRER, the Japanese Embassy-attached Japan Information and Culture Center (JICC) in Pasay City said over the weekend “the status (of the planned aid program) has not changed.”
“It remains a plan since we have not yet received any official request from the Philippine side,” the JICC also said, adding “please contact the Department of Transportation and Communications, the PCG or the National Economic and Development Authority for updates.”
Contacted shortly before he was named Department of the Interior and Local Government head by President Aquino, then DOTC Secretary Mar Roxas said, “We, the DOTC and the Coast Guard, are working with the Japanese government and with the Department of Foreign Affairs on this.”
“I understand the DFA is already requesting (for the patrol boats) formally,” Roxas told the INQUIRER.
