four hours after they were instructed to go to masbate last sunday, eric barete and ralp ian abatol were surveying the seas where the plane carrying interior secretary jesse robredo crashed a day earlier.

By late afternoon on monday, using a technology called side scan sonar, barete and abatol spotted the plane wreckage about 800 meters from the shores and 180 feet deep into the sea.
