Theists claims that morality is absolute. They base it on their God. But theists believe in different Gods and practice different principles.

As a Christian (myself), Morality is absolute...it is as stable as God himself. But in these times were truth is relative, morality goes with it (in its decline)...

Morality can only be good to where you put your belief..this is where you first draw the line.

    @3nZ0y:

    Well, here is one exercise:

Moral absolute: Murder or any form of violence towards another person is simply bad.

We all agree that murder and any form of violence toward another person is bad. Yet, we all disagree what constitutes murder or violence. Be it abortion, mercy killing or lethal injection.

Still, the first premise holds and becomes a moral absolute. If you get my point.

I have read in an article somewhere that morality is a result of our inherent ALTRUISM towards our kins. We as biological animals are drawn to people who have nourished us. From then, morality evolved as a way to protect this kinship. Morality developed as a way to establish relationships and maintain harmony in the human herd.

There must be things that are considered perversion to the norms. These perversions, from human experience does not offer any good to the society. There are good traits however that need to be encouraged to inorder for the society to propagate and develop and these became moral codes which are absolute.

Therefore I can argue that even atheists can become moral persons because of this.

However, Christians/Muslims/Buddhists are much luckier since these morals are codified to make their society and their kinship stronger. These moral teachings are being reinforced and implemented.

As it is in Islam. Have u any idea how precious a marriage is in Islam?

Marriage completes one half of one's deen (religion). The word "zawj" is used for "spouse" or literally "one half of a pair". We are created as one half of a pair, therefore, we are incomplete without the other.

The prophet (pbuh) said: `The most perfect believer in faith is the one whose character is finest and who is kindest to his wife.'

My husband and I (as well as everyone else in the family...in fact every Muslim I know or ever heard of) favour the monogamous marriage and it's the norm. But once u truly understand the practicality and reason behind the other type of arrangement, u will see why it's acceptable.

Humans are thinking animals. A certain thing only becomes absolute if it satisfies those questions. Only that those questions are just "subpremises" of the Golden Rule. If we do not have moral absolutes then we have the law of the jungle Huna hunaa bro na ang moral absolutes mao na ang rules when playing a game. There are certain things that will not be allowed for the game to proceed. If every player magpagusto na lang, what will happen to the game?

Unsay difference sa murder, mercy killing and lethal injection?

to quote my post in the next page: "We all agree that murder and any form of violence toward another person is bad. Yet, we all disagree what constitutes murder or violence. Be it abortion, mercy killing or lethal injection."

Question: if ma legalize ang prostitution, automatic ba mamahimong prostitute imo daughter? Sayop man na nga pagtoo. How about the current prostitute? What will become of

We are not condemning the prostitutes, we only condemn the act. Anyway, you judge by your conscience AND you also consider what is good for the society when you decide if it is moral or not.

Ask this question bro: Does prostitution do any good for me, my daughter and the society?
If dili YES tanan imong answer, please evaluate what is wrong. Remember only that a certain act becomes moral if it satisfies all.

If ma-legalize ni, tanan na mag marijuana? What if it is actually beneficial?

See, the problem with claiming that morality should be based on what YOU believe in is just wrong.

REALLY History then is your enemy and luckily, people have been wise enough to control these addictive drugs. You can google the Boxer Revoluton bro and see what these drugs are doing to society.

Well, imo sad na and I respect that. But consider this: himatyon, vegetable state, makina na lang nagpabuhi niya.

What are we protecting here? The life of a person [nga barely na lang] in misery?

As a Catholic, the best way to do is to keep him in the most comfortable state that science could offer. Withdrawing any form of life support is simply murder.

Well, it was a custom more common during the prophet's (pbuh) time to "save" widowed women whose husband's that died in battle and support them/look after them rather than have them wander around the streets alone.

A reason why polygamy is permitted is that if a husband and wife cannot conceive and he cannot bear adopting a stranger's child, he may marry another woman (single of course) with the permission of his first wife. He has to be able to treat them equally, so if he gives his first wife a 20K ring, he must give the 2nd a 20K ring too :P

It is a belief amongst Christians that polygamy goes against natural law...but really? What about polygamy practiced in the Old Testament? This is a good read Polygamy in Islam, Monogamy, Bigamy, Multiple Wifes, Polygamous, Mistress, Family Planning

The Quran mentions permission of marrying up to four wives however, is the only scripture in the world that says "marry only one". It was later that the Hindu Priests and Christian Church restricted the number of wives to one.

Taken from an article on Women's Rights http://www.al-islam.org/womanrights/11.htm:
Courteous behaviour towards woman is the main part of the chivalry which the Europeans learnt from the Muslims. It was Islam, and not the religion of Christ, as is believed by the common people, that enhanced the position of woman.
