yes, cebu is safe and peaceful compared to other islands in the philippines
And these are just confirmed cases of crime. Here in Cebu you can only imagine how many armed robberies go unreported because civilians either feel it won't get them anywhere, or that it's too much of a hassle.Cebu City has highest crime rate in Central Visayas - police - InterAksyon.com
Cebu City has highest crime rate in Central Visayas - police
The Police Regional office (PRO) 7’s crime statistics showed that Cebu City posted the highest number of crimes in Central Visayas with 1,137 cases in the past two months.
But Senior Supt. Mariano Natuel, chief of the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD), said the number showed a drop of 139 cases in the region compared to the same period last year that had 1,276 cases.
Based on the current crime statistics, at least 18 crimes occurred in Cebu City every day.
Natuel said Cebu province followed Cebu City with 960 cases. But this was a drop of 222 cases from last year’s 1,182, he said.
He said Cebu City has the highest number of crimes because it has a bigger population and has more economic activities.
Bohol occupied the third spot with 518 cases. The province’s criminality rose by 74 cases from last year’s 444.
Negros Oriental ranked fourth with 471 cases. The province’s number of crimes fell by 203 compared to last year’s 674.
Lapu-Lapu City came next with 310. The city posted a decrease of 19 cases from last year’s 329.
The sixth spot belonged to Mandaue City, which had 290 cases. This was a decrease of 28 cases from last year’s 318.
Siquijor, the smallest province in the region, posted only 18 cases, which is a decrease of 24 incidents from last year’s 42.
In terms of homicides and violent crimes, we're pretty OK--not great, but low compared to Metro Manila. We're lucky to be spared from terrorist bombings for so many years too. But petty crimes have definitely been on the rise, which is common in highly urbanized areas. But in most countries, these are often limited to "hot spots" or areas close to ghettos etc. The problem here in Cebu is that it doesn't matter where you are, you still have a good chance of being robbed--you can even be in the Cebu Business Park (private property) or be a few meters away from a PNP precinct and still be robbed.
What's worse is that the police have a poor record of tracking down assailants--in other words, ka-ikyas ra ang tulisan. Moreover, it bothers me why areas known for petty crimes aren't manned by police 24 hours a day--take for example Lorega.
I've been living in cebu city for almost fifteen years in my life but nothing happened to me like that. Na timingan lang guro to.
This has been the most common defensive excuse being repeated
so unsaon nato pag base para mu improve ang standards when it comes to safety?
if naa mahitabo e compare nato dayon siguro sa lugar nga mas grabi pa so let's just dismiss it as being thankfull kay it could have been worse or mas grabi pa and ayaw nalang reklamo making our authorities more complacent kay wala reklamo?
Yah definitely Cebu is much safer compared to Somalis, or the slums in Venezuela, the streets of Bogota, or even in the urban jungle alleys of the Bronx?
me and my wife stayed in cebu from 2008-2010. before we went there, many people (even some cebuanos) warned us nga daghan lagi daw snatcher, kawatan, crime etc. but in our 2+ years stay in cebu, wala man mi ka experience nga na biktima ug krimen. basta cautious lang ka sa imong surroundings, wala man siguro mahitabo sa imoha. unya ayaw lang pod sobra ka flashy sa imong mga gamit/suot, kay para dili pud ma attract ang mga criminal elements sa imoha.
kanang mga crimen mahitabo jud na siya if na i makit an nga potential na biktimahon
