I believe this goes with the condition our country has been for the past years that our minds and interests have diverted on accomplishing day-to-day tasks than the pursuit of knowledge. I don't think we're getting dumber, but it is clear an attempt at sophisticated and/or critical mental exercise has become too alien for many of our countrymen over the years.

Why? Kay pa iskwelahon sa ginikanan, mo iskwela lagi pero puro barkada, panguyab ug puro binuang ang atimanon. High school pero usa ra ka notebook ang dala? Unsa man na, genius? Mas concern pa ang mga batan-on karon sa ilang looks, which is most of the time "emo" unya mag sige ug tuplok anang ilang touch screen nga celphone pero nag nihit diay sa load.

Exposed na pud kaayo ang mga tao karon sa mga walay hinungdan nga mga salida sa tv, puro nalang telenovela nga recycled ug ridiculously predictable kaayo ang mga story.

you can blame anybody you want the government, media and anyone whom you thing is responsible for it and still it doesn't solve the problem. for me, i still seek self improvement through reading, going back to school and trainings to keep my mind sharp because i can't just solely rely on other people/institutions to teach me everything i want to learn. it can't be help if others decide to let themselves rot intellectually.

    dugaya na ani ui....

I think i have the answer for my own question:
    1. Government - believe it or not, government has the single most powerful influence with the content of our educational system. Yes, there are few exceptional individuals who can shake off the educational pattern conditioned by the government for all, but most are not able to because the concentration of most people is on for the sake of being educated than learning. Government dictates the way all of us are educated, and when they are wrong in their plans, damn, few generations of Filipinos are ****ed.
Unfortunately, the government has always been wrong...

    2. Media - pair the faulty central educational planning with stupid redundant telenovelas, with themes that are perverted on moral principles. But then again, that is the price for this kind of entertainment. Most people depend on the little tube to gain shallow insights towards all aspects of life, politics especially.

    3. No educational market competition - The quality of education for most government schools are deteriorating. When competition is eliminated, quality diminishes as well. It is impossible to deliver the most quality education for everyone, instead the government is force to be mediocre, unless people want to be taxed more. Of course even if that happens, it cannot guarantee quality education.

    4. Individual - even if one cannot formally attend school, one can still be smart in the real life. Work and real life experiences are the bases for most legendary entrepreneurs to succeed, even if they started poor and illiterate. But such examples are no longer relevant, since most individuals are convinced that the only way to succeed is to attend an educational institution. But who can blame them? The government makes it hard for the less fortunate to gain work and real life experiences by propping up laws that seem to protect the less fortunate at first, but it blocks their first stepping stones to success instead.
