NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 560 and GTX 550 series graphics processors, which command attractive sub-$200 price points, could be discontinued immediately after the company launches next-generation GeForce GTX 660, GTX 650 series, according to a DonanimHaber report.

NVIDIA's hit GK104 graphics chip will soon go into making two new SKUs, the GeForce GTX 660 Ti, and GeForce GTX 660. The company is expected to launch its mid-range GK106 chip, on which the GeForce GTX 650 will be based. The three desktop GPUs will be announced in the August-September time-frame. By then, it is expected that swelling inventories of existing GTX 560 and 550 series could be digested to a big extant by the market, following which NVIDIA could issue product discontinuation notifications for the three. A product discontinuation notification (PDN) is a formal notice to existing and prospective distributors that the company intends to discontinue a product, specifying a last date of accepting orders for it. After the very last of the orders are fullfilled (shipped), the product attains "end of life" (EOL) state.
