"I'm sure the city would love to have him back, but the team decided to go in a different direction," Smith said. "It's nothing personal, I don't think, just business. We just hope everybody can benefit from here.

"I don't really know how Mr. Dolan feels at this point with what the luxury tax is now and what it used to be, but I just hope it works out the best for both of them."

Asked if Lin's contract could cause a challenging dynamic with his teammates, Smith agreed.

"Without a doubt," he said. "I think some guys take it personal, because they've been doing it longer and haven't received any reward for it yet. I think it's a tough subject to touch on for a lot of guys."

The problem with Knicks that due to 3 players with hefty contract paralyze their luxury tax cap. It's not Jeremy Lin's fault if Houston offers a backload deal. Marketing wise, it's a smart investment (jerseys/merchandise/ticket sales/coverage subscriptions) for a billion people in Asian community if Lin can keep up the hype next season & many seasons to come.

Knicks organization seems to have really bad basketball IQ. It would be better to replace the overpaid Amare and have Lin in being the glue that connects the whole team and makes it functional. As for Carmelo’s comment, he should talk less and work more on being a better defender and team player

truth be told Lin is still not yet tested in a whole season with the amount of games he played the Rockets offer is somewhat ridiculous really. It's a gamble for the Rockets but the Knicks doesn't need to risk it cause they already got a great team now with Felton and Kidd joining them.

rockets are desperate anything the fills up theyre seats will help.. the were willing to clear everybody for dwight... They saw the marketing impact ni LIN sa NY with his short stint.... they want that, basketball will be next. All of it is true lin is not a superstar but paid like one. after 3 years.... He has to prove it basketball wise. Ride on lng ang Rockets sa LInsanity. Ka Lin kaon daghan monggos ug bugas whole lot of work to do to prove your bball skills...... I mean the only reason there are team owners / teams are attendance and merchandise asa kwarta.... one way is get a winning team or a player who can fill up the seats....
