Hey guys
Seems alive pa ni nga thread when I left it. I need to ask kay my BF is trying to dissuade me from buying USB powered. Ana siya mas prone daw, kay if magkapower surge, maguba USB, goodbye external hard drive...whereas pag adapter powered daw, if magkapower surge, adapter or ang usb ra maguba so okay pa.
Any take on this?
akong buffalo nga 320 gig 2 years nani kapin buhi pa tawn. Medyo gi taya nalang ang usb cord ani
power surge? from a USB port? power from that comes from the motherboard which has one of the best power regulation circuitry than any other parts in a computer CPU.
defective USB port or defective USB header/connector though is a different story...kung naay short dha or something, siakoy jud na most likely ang naka connect nga USB device og may puruhan pa nga ma among ang motherboard and other components...

Ah, okay. Thanks sa clarification. I'm no expert man gud on hardware. Software is a different story hehehe
Anyway, do both adapter powered and usb powered external hdd have the same risk of shorting out? Or is one better than the other?
Honestly, hahaha medyo hasul, galalis me sa ako BF ani. I badly need the extra space na jud and he keeps stopping me from buying the cheaper USB powered portable, kay dapat lagi kato adapter powered ako palitun kay mas lig-un daw.....this is pretty much why I created this thread to know which is which jud before I make my purchase.
^^ ayaw nalang i complicate miga arun mahuman na ka sa imo problema, hahaha
palit nalang og nga Western Digital or Seagate nga mobile external HDD nga USB kanang readily available sa local market unya pag back up pud og copies sa desktop or laptop nimo og kung gusto pa jud ka multiple duplicates, mag back up pud ka sa DVDs...![]()
To avoid power surge, palit nalang ug either AVR or kadtong UPS. Nindot ang western digital. Another one, is hitachi. Durable. I had a 160gb usb powered external nga hitachi mg 5 years na hapit wa pajud problema. At least 1 wire ra ang imong kelangan dad-on. Ang akong hitachi sab nga hdd sa laptop mg 2 years na wa pagyud naguba whereas kadtong 320gb seagate na hdd na part sa laptop 1 year ragyud tawn ng-clicking sound na. Dili na madetect.
@bim sa akong experience, murag dili gyud nindot mg backup sa dvd unless if you buy the expensive ones ky ang cdrking nga mga cd and dvd 1-2 year ray lifespan sa akong nabantayan. Either dugay naxa mobasa or mg read error na ang mga files inig copy. Gibutang man unta nako sila ug cd rack.
PS: Dili ko hitachi salesman
katang mga hard disk sa 70's e karga pa ug forklift inig install sa mainframe, kato durable gyud to xa pero 500mb lang maximum capacity....![]()

Mine is a Kingston external hard drive and has been working pretty good, always prefer this brand.
