Official End Date for Qitz World/Round Qitz will end 3 months from today: October 10th, 2012.
Well guys the time has come to put an official end date on the "Planet Qitz" world.
This issue has already been discussed several times (Townian in a Beta Version), but it has come to the point to finally make a decision.
Qitz will end 3 months from today: October 10th, 2012.
Townian will still continue, in fact by the time Qitz ends, there will be several new rounds started (both "speed" and "long term" rounds).
I know you will have a lot of questions, so I will try to answer as many as I can upfront:
What will happen to my towns/deposits/alliance/etc when Qitz ends on 10/10?
The database will be deleted, everything that is currently associated with Qitz will be gone. You will still be able to login to Townian with your same Username/Password, but when you get to the "World Selection" screen (Droplr*•*Screenshot on 7.9.2012 at 11.59.03 AM.png), Qitz will be gone and you will see other worlds to login to.
I worked really hard to get my towns! I don't want them deleted!
I know, and I understand that a lot of effort has gone into your account! But as we have already discussed in other threads, Qitz was going to end at some point and I promised to give as much notice as possible so that you can adjust your strategies. Please see the full explanation below for the reasons that we must close Qitz.
What if I make a deposit right before the game closes?
I highly suggest that you don't make a deposit that you can't use before the round ends.
If I start playing another world before Qitz ends, will I lost that data too?
When Qitz ends, ONLY Qitz data will be removed, if you are playing in a speed round or long term round (that we will start soon!), then those towns WILL NOT BE EFFECTED. The data from each world is independent of each other - in other words, nothing is shared between worlds, so if you join another world before Qitz ends, nothing you do in Qitz will effect your data in the new world.
Reasons for needing to close Qitz:
- First, I understand that no reason I give will seem like a good reason to those of you who have been playing for a long time and don't want to see the round end. So I will remind you that I have already mentioned several times in the past that Qitz would eventually end and I would give as much notice and be as fair as possible before it ends.
- As many of you know, I took over the game from the original designer (GMDestiny) about 3 months ago. Although he did a good job of creating the game, there were many issues that he did not address. As you know, there were a lot of bugs (and still are many we are working on), and there were also many issues of game balance and long-term stability that were not considered when the game was created. Therefore, the only way to address these issues is to end the round and ensure that all future rounds start with well defined end dates and a balanced game experience for everyone who plays.
- When I took over the game, I did not realize how many people thought that playing Townian was an investment and not just a way to have fun and make a few dollars too. I now understand that many people invested and hoped to see long-term results from their investment. Unfortunately, like I have stated above, Qitz was not designed to support this kind of long-term play and therefore is not sustainable.
- Because there are now many long-term players with very large towns, cashouts are now greater than deposits. That means Townian is paying out money faster than it is coming in. I will be completely honest with you guys, every single deposit that has been made has been invested back into the game. I have spent thousands on getting the game running better (for instance: server upgrades, paying programmers to fix bugs and add features, paying a graphic designer for a new layout which is coming soon!). I want Townian to be around for a very long time, and to be fun to play for everyone! In order for that to happen, things need to change or Townian will be bankrupt in a very short time. In fact, it is likely I will be losing money until Qitz is closed in 3 months - but I am willing to do that in the hopes that Townian will be a good investment in the long run. I am not looking to get rich by running Townian, but I am also not looking to throw all my money away either!
- There are several bugs with "old accounts" (accounts moved from the old server) that cannot be fixed while those accounts are active. The only way to get those bugs resolved is to start a new world.
- There are several new (and exciting!) features planned for Townian, but they cannot be added to Qitz because of current game-balance issues. All future rounds will have these features though.
Thank you guys for all your support over the last 3 months! The only reason I have not given up on Townian is because of all the awesome players we have!
Long Live Townian!
