My take on the issue? Singaporeans see Filipinos in SG just like how Filipinos see Koreans in the PH.

Fight racism with reason and not more racism. If you are racist, then you've no right to complain about other racists. You're in the same boat with them in different skin.

Instead of bashing them we should be proud that there's an Asian country that can match the western nations, this gives us hope that one day we can be as successful as them. Anyway, this blog doesn't reflect reality on the ground, it's easy for Pinoys to get jobs in Singapore. Compare that with a caucasian nation where it's much harder to get a job if you aren't white. I think racism reflected in that blog is mild compared to some neo-nazi sites I've seen. As long as they keep giving jobs to us it doesn't matter how many racist blogs they make.

    This particular comment amused me:
I think the Singapore has made a mistake allowing a Pinoy community to take root here. We have to learn a thing or two about how Pinoys behave. In the US for eg, if you employ a Pinoy, he brings in his family; and the family in turn bring in others of the compareys – those related not necessarily by blood but by ties of kinship made through say being a god parent of a child. If you have a Pinoy in your department, very soon it growns to two, then more; eventually a small Pinoy community emerges. If the Manager is say an American, they will “manage him out” and put one of their kind in; and they’ll proliferate and then pressure the system to do things in their favour. Smart as our leaders are, they are not so street smart against the Pinoy who can overthrow a legitimately installed government with “people’s power” Has the Philippines improved since? No. Still in the rut, because people who destabliise will go on destablishing because there are people who thrive in this environment to make good money, to enjoy some days off to protest. Pinoys are tardy. Sad to say most of the late comers in Church are Pinoy. You will find this tardiness in Singapore too. Thye will blame the traffic, the MRT breakdowns, etc. Good luck Singapore.
While I don't agree with the last part, there is some truth about Pinoys slowly "smuggling" relatives over once they find work and establish themselves in a foreign country. Not necessarily a bad thing, but this hate and fear of having your homeland overrun by hordes of Pinoys probably comes from two types of people: (1) The snide, snarky racist with nothing to do on a Sunday afternoon; and (2) The struggling worker who finds himself constantly competing with a foreigner for jobs that supposedly address his (and his fellowman's) lack of employment.

#1's a no-brainer, but I can easily see myself being #2 if the situations were reversed - eg. if Koreans weren't actually here to subscribe to our country's newfound english education industry (bringing in Korean Won cash flow), but were actually here as job-seekers agreeable on a starting income of PHP8,000 per month in a call center, I could see a lot of Pinoys get pissed over that.

Regardless, I believe SG isn't suffering the same unemployment woes as the Phils, because if they are, why continually bring in foreign employees? So my guess is most of the hate-mongering singaporeans are probably just bored f*cks who have nothing else to do. Just like Pinoys who complain about Koreans being "too loud" in a restaurant.

I think the issue is that many local workers think bringing in lots of foreign workers who are willing to work for less has a depressive effect on their wages. Remember that in a country like Singapore that doesn't have true minimum wage, the salary of workers is determined by market forces. Increasing supply of labor, especially of workers willing to work for less, results in lower wages especially for low-skill workers. It's the businessmen and owners who benefit the most from imported labor and because the businessmen pay the taxes that support their governments high wages, the government implements policies to make their businessmen happy.

Haven't thought of that, but you are correct. Having too many pinoys in there who work for cheap (SG cheap that is) definitely has detrimental effects on their own wages. Well, that's capitalism for ya.

Question - what's the minimum wage for a Singaporean gov't employee?

murag "Stormfront", where I do a lot of my trolling rounds.

Anyway, SG is a really progressive country and, from my own account I don't have problems with them. They probably hold prejudices behind my back, but I do the same. Let their racism affect you, but in a positive way, let it affect change. Also, everyone holds their prejudices (and everyone is a racist in varying degrees), just make sure it does not get in the way of how you conduct yourself. If someone chooses to act or speak based on their prejudices, take the high road. It will only irk them to know their opinions are crap to you. Bisan unsa pay masulti sa mga outsiders about sa atong nationality, I can't and won't relinquish my identity as a Filipino. But that's also the sole reason why I want positive change sa atong mindset and ethic as a people. We deserve better.
