there is no such thing as "safe play in the stock market"... everythings is a risk, even life, but remember to succeed in life u just need balls... anyway basing in my own opinion, in short term stock markets is kinda bad, its just had a distributoin day las thur/fri... i have to watch the markets carefully now coz its saying that the emotion to have is fear not hope k... but in long term its bound to go up, its the philippine stock market is going up since 2000, saying philippine economy is just a perception or just plain naive!

    Default stocks and mutual funds

i've been contemplating on participating on the stock market actively. i know someone's dad who sent his kids all through college, even post-grad, by buying 3 different newspapers every single day and trading his stocks at PSE. cool huh!

so jed_baguio, tell me, who's your broker?

Anyone knows where one can get Retail Treasury Bills? Banks always "seem to run out" of RTB's these days and I am beginning to suspect such "unavailability" is a way of snubbing small players like myself who couldn't afford to throw in a million bucks outright.

Guys, what are your thoughts on what doomsday analysts are saying that the bullish sentiment at the PSE these days is just fuelled by lotsa hot money coming in... and that the index will eventually recede to the 1700 level when foreign investors pull out middle of the year? Apparently there are no strong fundamentals to warrant an upswing. Is this a good time to play? Jed?

    On Mutual Funds:
    1. Sunlife fund managers are "a little conservative" compared to Philam fund managers and that explains why ROI at Philam looks encouraging than Sunlife.
    2. Be sure your into mutual funds for the long haul. It is easy to invest 5,000 or 10,000 and a 20% ROI quote may seem seductive to you but think of the front load/back load fees Sunlife or Philam will charge you. It may "eat up" on your gains making your fund managers the richer guys than you will ever be... if you pullout early.
    3. If you are not decided on the best investment vehicle for you at this time, the best thing to do is park your cash in a money market fund. It has no sales load, no tax, withdrawable anytime. Your money earns a small interest (smaller than time deposit but definitely bigger than what savings banks offer these days).

Hi. The stock market is a dangerous place. A friendly advise? stick to the basics. Buy low, Sell high/research/pursue information and even rumors but don't bet your life on it/invest only money you can afford to lose/diversify.

it's true. the trend is holding me back... but stock market is not like playing in the casino. investing is not like betting on sheer luck. some companies that are listed in PSE are, indeed, performing pretty well. i still haven't made up my mind though. there's still time deposits, retail treasury bills and bonds and of course, mutual funds.
