Lahi man ang China-USA situation sa USSR-USA situation, back then. There were zero "open" dialogue between USSR and the USA, and their economies were not interwoven, unlike karun nga China and US are bound together. We won't be seeing a Bay of Pigs-like scenario here in the Philippines.

I don't think that this will happen. Once china tries to invade the Philippines the Pacific Command (PACOM) will then interfere as the US is one of our allied nation. Though it is not good that we solely rely on our allied nations. However, it is known all over the world what Filipinos and Filipino soldiers are capable of, we have the will to survive. This has been the main weapon why filipino soldiers are feared as the most greatest warrior especially in jungle warfare.

the USA has guam and has nuclear submarines that can launch from the coast of China.... no need for a land base in the philippines.
