That amendment/extension of rights did not occur until the late 19th century, way past the era of the founding fathers. And even then after it needed a civil rights movement under MLK Jr. and Malcolm X in the 50s. The thought is these founding fathers, all slave owners, never would have imagined the inclusion of ALL people (no fine print) to have unalienable rights, nor would have Locke or the any thinkers who are proponents of the social contract. It was significant because of course they came from a monarchy, much like the effect of the magna carta.

Because Cebu was the bailiwick of Marcos' opposition way back 30 years ago and also Cory Aquino was well-loved here in Cebu even though during her president she do nothing especially during the Typhoon Ruping.

yes, that is also correct... it was not perfect, but it was a great leap towards that emancipation and abolition of slavery.... The unintended consequences of the principles laid down by the founding fathers had changed many intellectuals' opinion regarding slavery... It is worthy to note that there were many white rich men then who have fought against slavery...

The Civil Rights Movement was not supported by all black minorities, especially those who recognized that the movement was tainted with communist ideologies... I think Thomas Sowell and Walter williams, both black economists, were critical of the movement. They have detailed reasons why they are against... I have to stop here as i am already going beyond the scope of this thread.

Almost all politicians have in one way or another have concerted with the leftist groups. Some of their aspirations were shared by the majority of the filipino people: political freedom, freedom of choice through elections, freedom of expression, etc... So the rumors that the Aquino family have ties with the left is not surprising, just like many in the opposition especially during the marcos era. But that doesn't automatically mean Aquino family are communists or leftists. In fact the Aquino admin in 1988 launched the biggest counter insurgency operation against communist CPP/NPA/NDF dubbed as the Total War Policy which resulted in the decrease of rebel strength to almost 50% in 1991.

It is always good to take conspiracy stories with a grain of salt..

Not before giving the leftists a resurgence by freeing up Marcos' communist political prisoners.
