You have to build up the guts to start talking to her first, before you go about giving gifts to make her notice you. Love without friendship is like a house built on sand. Update:

I overheard her talking to one of her friends about how she really likes candy canes. I'm thinking about making a vase with a candy cane pattern (red and white) in addition to some Christmas motifs like reindeer and mistletoe, and then filling it with green and white candy canes when I'm finished. I've never talked to her, so would it be awkward if I randomly gave her this present? Should I tell her I like her/love her when I hand it to her?
