Philippines hasn't had real war since 70 years ago and the most actual military campaign was against the US from 1899-1904. The government isn't exactly bent on military muscle the last 30 years. The culture also isn't built on violence, war, action, combat like other places. The closest is Manny Paquiao and Boxing. Other countries have a huge SERVE YOUR COUNTRY....ENLIST IN THE MILITARY...advertisement and promotion campaign. Philippines doesn't so.
Celebrities, family feuds, political circus, American Idol play more importance. As well as UNREALISTIC Internet Cafe War Games where most pinoys get their education on the issue. Or the MSM's twist/spin on things.
Reality is not MW3 or Counterstrike. That is a "Video Game". But to most it's reality.....with cheat codes enabled for infinite health and secret weapons.
In real war people die, civilians die too, kids die also. Not just men/women in uniform. One of the biggest advantages a country can have is military combat experience in it's civilian population (Veterans) and stockpile of weapons. If the Armed Forces get taken out then you have also a guerilla paramilitary force they have to fight off too.
Philippines doesn't have this.
The UN countering China? They can handle small disputes or nations without much military capability or force. UN is not combat defense/aggression force. They are a peacekeeping force. They don't ally to defend disputed territory. They keep the peace AFTER the war has concluded if an agreement is established.
I think you're reflecting on something called NATO...which doesn't stretch into the Philipines. Hence NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY...
