I could be wrong, but I don't think they export that aircraft. The Harrier Jump-jet could be worth considering, with vertical takeoff there's no need for a proper runway, vector thrusting makes it agile and it's proven in combat both in the air and ground attack.

Maybe Uncle Sam can make an exemption if indeed they cannot be exported. A-10's are relatively cheap to acquire and fly compared to other Jets. They are a perfect fit for our needs and financial capacity. A Harrier isn't practical for us although it would be cool to have some once we get our own Aircraft Carrier. hehe

Ang atoa siguro ground attack concentrated siguro sa helicopter kay wala man effective na AA atong mga insurgents. Unya ang A-10 more on armored targets na siya.

That talk is trash. The government has already abandoned the idea. The Philippines will now be purchasing jets from other countries abroad.

The logic is simple. If all you get from America are second-hand F-16s then better find BRAND NEW jet fighters from other countries at the same price. We're looking at either the T-50 from South Korea or another variant form Italy.

MALACAÑANG on Wednesday said that President Benigno Aquino 3rd will ask the United States to deliver at least two F-16 fighter jets to boost the defense capability of the country.

Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said that the government has already sent its formal request to Washington.

“Well, we confirm that we were asking for F-15 jets and also—F-16, sorry. But again, that is subject to a decision on the part of US whether to accede to our request. We’ve asked for two ships already, the Hamilton cutter. We’ve asked and it’s up to the US government whether to accede to our request for the US fighter jets,” he added.

Aquino had set aside P10 billion for the acquisition of war material, which will also be used to respond to calamities and disasters.

The US limits arms sales to Philippines because we have failed to rectify certain human rights issues. All we have to do is put an end to extra-judicial killings, threats against the press and a few other things and then we are then able window shop for Apache helicopters, APVs etc...... although paying for them is another matter.

the HR talk is just an excuse from Washington. It is indeed about the interest AND the de niro. Look at Israel's HR record, look at Pakistan, look at India. Trust me, if naay kwarta ang Pilipinas it will be as good as any other country's.

Why would Washington need an excuse? This is one of several "carrots" designed to encourage reform in the Phils. The Israel situation is far more complex and constantly under discussion. We on the other hand are considered a backwater country and a political tinder box. Freely giving arms to us without conditions would be considered irresponsible by the US senate.
