We have one of the best and updated airforce in Asia in the 1960's. Now, it is the weakest because of corruption. Hope we get our glory back if we have the extra money.

You have the money, you can have the production, you have the education and technology studies, you have the ability to do research and development....it's just not used properly.

Also it's not just acquiring aircraft and weapons...it's also maintaining them and getting personnel trained to properly maintain them. Then you need updated combat training. It's not just about money.

With the rate even Indonesia and Vietnam are moving i doubt it.

I agree with you on all what you said. It is easy to acquire aircraft, tanks, weapons but the maintenance must be also put into consideration.

If the Philippines can't even maintain world war II aircraft let alone pilot it properly...then what says they can handle a F-35 (as some delusional person dreams is possible). Philippines doesn't gear towards war mentality, they don't promote military recruitment heavily in public or in TV or newspapers. I don't think AFP invests in it. There isn't much production on weaponry or research cause the Philippine Government is afraid of it being used for crime or a overthrow..or used by the MILF. They're even afraid of Airsoft. They have huge deposits of resources but have these family political squabals over who owns it and who should mine and reap the benefits. No one really advocates a military industrial complex in the Philippines or research and development of Pinoy Weapons. Condos, Factories and Tourism is the rage in Business and what the CLAN OF DESTINED BIZ PINOYS have done for generations and their fathers and grandfathers before them. There is little room for entrepreneurship and technology business geeks to work their way in. CASH AND BLOODLINE IS KING. Not your education here. War and combat isn't promoted much here for entertainment. Counterstrike and MW3 is the extend of what pinoys know about actual War and Militarization or what they see on TV. Most treat it like a joke or a video game or movie. Philippine also hasn't had or been in serious military conflicts on the frontlines in large numbers for 70 years? Last was 100 years ago from 1899-1904 with the American-Philippine War.
They've become accustomed to leeching on the US from 1960's to till the 90's when Clark closed. The US would donate or sell cheap or subsidize. Philippines didn't have to do much but lend their land as a strategic base. Now that is gone and Marcos didn't build any massive military industry. The other Presidents were not big on military spending but more on Tourism and Commercial Development. That didn't go far with all the corruption and lost funds.

Round and Round this goes.

The Philippines doesn't need just CASH to fund it's military and maintain it.

#1. They need better operational structure and intelligence platforms.
#2. Better Preparation on Logistics Coordination and Readiness. (9000 Islands...Indonesia has 17000 and does a better job)
#3. Utilization of natural resource deposits for mining and refinement.
#4. Research and Development of weapons/vehicles that match the needs.
#5. Military Industrialization to produce their own.
#6. Amped up Military Budget.
#7. Consider buying from other nations like Russia or China. Stop waiting for the USA.

Trying to spend to buy modernization is not going to work Nnoy. You also have to MAINTAIN it and train them on the combat or operational capabilities too to combat more advanced weapons and technology of other nations (Pretty damn hard to do).

naa kay point bro but have you also consider ngano gihatag sa atoa ang mga post WW2 era aircraft it is because lisod na kaau e maintain kay wala na mostly ga manufacture sa mga spareparts - IMHO mas sayon pa e maintain ang new avionics system w/c is digital now adays mao daw ne dali ma guba aside sa mga mechanical parts due to wear and tear - dili ko sweto pero pwede rako mangutana just in case hehe
