I was at my friend's house for his little daughter's birthday party last weekend . This friend of mine is a Filipino and we met a few years ago during a Filipino Christmas party gathering where my parents are members to this cultural group . When we first met , he asked what to wear for a job interview - he got a job interview for a forklift operator at a factory near Newmarket . I told him what outfits to wear and told me that he couldn't afford to buy one cuz at the time he was just a newly-arrived immigrant . So I let him borrow my suits and other stuff he needed to wear for an interview .
When he went for an interview , not only he got the job , he got offered for an office position in the factory . The way you dress is very important when you go for a job interview .
Now , it is my obligation to help my fellow men , who just got graduated from college or still couldn't find job since the layoffs due to the worldwide recession .
Here it is , broskis ...
1. Gray or Navy Blue Suit . (optional)
You want to make a good first impression to your employer and wearing a suit would be the best weapon . If you do wear a suit , make sure it's not 'baggy' for you like that lame real estate agent . Unless you're going for an that executive job interview at Metrobank , leave the pocket squares at home . And ummmm , don't wear a brown or khaki suit until you got the job and presenting a plan in the board room .
If you can't wear a suit for whatever reason , go to number 2 .
2. Plain Dress Shirts
A plain dress shirt is great to wear for a job interview . Gray , blue , or white would be the appropriate for this occasion . You want to have your outfit to be neutral . You can wear a plain black necktie to those colors . Don't forget to tuck in your shirt !
3. Black Pants
Make sure it's not baggy like you're heading for a hip hop concert . You should have that 'slim fit' kind of style for your pants . Also , make sure the length of your pants , is not all the way down to the 'top piece' of your shoes . Wear a belt - make sure it's either black or brown .
4. Dress Shoes
Choose whatever is the color of your belt . Black socks or it could be whatever color matches your necktie .
5. Confidence and great personality
Yeah , they get it that you're probably miserable and desperate for a job but that doesn't make you excused of bringing up your bad personality to your job interview . Be that someone in the workplace that everyone wants to be with . Before going to your interview , prepare potential questions that your potential employer that most likely will ask you . Don't be afraid calling your friends or former teachers to ask for tips on potential questions . I know it's a nerve-wracking if you're going for a job interview but don't make it obvious . Be confident , give the your potential employer a firm handshake . Show that you are THE MAN for the job !
I'll leave you with a quote from my dad , one of the great lesson I learned from him , he said
"Most people say dress for the job you want , but for me , dress for the man you want to be ."
