during the last years of my college days i finally decided to take the military course, i was lucky i wasn't part of the ROTC world coz my bro enrolled me to CWS (civic welfare services) run by religious education teachers... to cut the long story as part of the course we had a 3 days and 2 nights sort of retreat handled by a priest (well-known) and few of our religious instructors @ school. I won't mention any names na lang... anyways one morning we had a lecture about Jesus's real purpose on earth and as expected a lot of us shared opinions and ideas regarding the topic.... but one topic made us very silent and really quite for a few seconds when the priest said “there is no such thing as heaven” and this news comes straight from vatican that they have to spread the news carefully and discreetly to the members of the church coz this is a very sensitive issue of course this might lead to something unwanted. Sa akong pagka siaw na student i was speechless for a couple of minutes,.. and then i told my friends about it... i hear different reactions and opinions, maybe you too can share your ideas.

as for my view regarding this.... yes there is no such thing as heaven.

ka bad sad uy. did the priest even explain why would they say there's no heaven? pero di ba na mention man na sa bible ang heaven? so why would the catholic church say that?

i guess heaven and hell is only a state of mind kung mao na. if you are good and happy then you are in heaven and will always be in heaven forever. pero pag puros na lang malas and you do evil deeds then mao siguro na ang hell for you

First things first brod, i'm not picking on you okey - this is just my onpinion about your reply to the first quote. Does it mean that their Hindu God, Buddhist God, Muslim God are against sa pagtoo sa mga tao sa panhon nilang abraham? Buddhism, Hinduism already existed before christianity sat foot on this country. They already have Gods... China, Japan, India, and the rest already setting their own beliefs. It only came into view that christianity is/was the widely traveled religion. People were killed and tortured for the sake of Catholism. People were tortured because they don't believe in Christ - they even called them as Heretics. The primary reason that there was war because of religious beliefs. Before... you get killed by just praying under a different god because to them it's herecy.

In any sense, naa diay miscommunications to other people? Let's tell this to buddhists, moslems and hindus that God - our God is the only God not thiers becuase nagsupak sila sa balaod... or ten commandments. Let me ask you all this question, Do you or anyone of you know that someone came to life and told that there is heaven or hell? In the Bible, it's all imaginary. If you are sinner you will burn in Hell and if you're all good you go to heaven. Tsk, even priests don't know where it is located mao nga gi-relinquish nila nga there is no heaven and no hell because none of those "holy" men came back to life and say... YES, THERE IS HEAVEN AND THERE IS HELL.

So, where do we go if we die? I don't have that answer except that we turn to dust. Make no mistake mga brothers, I am a religious person but I don't confess my sins to priests. Why? they're humans like you and me... they relay it to God - why can't we do it ourselves? It's the same thought... why channeling our mistakes to other and have them pray for our sins? God didn't tell us to channel our sins to other people... we have direct contact to him if you all believe that. Salamat sa pagbasa.

In any case, there can't be "Heaven."

If agree that heaven is a place where God is then we are wrong in the context that God can't be in a place and with that if we still insist that heaven is where God is then here is my take over it.

1.) God is a spiritual in nature so he can't be in a place. Only those beings that is composed of matter can have a place in space. And since God is spiritual and not material he can't be in a place.

2.) If we agree that Heaven is "where" God is, we have to agree that the idea of heaven is 'anthrophomorphic' meaning we need to understand heaven in the way we human understand it. Example: We ask where do Juan lives. One may answer "Juan lives in Labangon." Thus when we ask where God lives, we answer "God lives in heaven." As such, we humans would always need to refer a place for something for us to be able to talk about something. In the philosophical tenets, this could be verified with Imannuel Kant's postulates on Time and Space.

3.) We are now posed with a very difficult question. If Heaven is not a place, then what is it?" Some theorists would say that it is a "state of being." In simpler terms, heaven could be understood the same as the Buddhist "nirvana." This may be unacceptable to many but I personnally would like to think that "heaven" is a "state or mode of being" just like being existent a material being.

Am making it clear or just making it worst? I don't know.
