The main and real issue isn't whether Uncle Sam protecting us and kissing his ass forever.. The problem is kita mismo mga Filipino.. What have we done to maintain our status as a major military power in Asia? Remember in the 60's we were on top 5 in Asia in terms of military might.. But what have we done? The US bases stayed until the 90's but our defense capability has dwindled or in a downward trend since the early 70's. And let's compare our situation with Japan, SoKor, Taiwan, and even Thailand. The problem lies in our cultural mentality. I hate to say this but even the title of this thread reflects such... instead of saying "Let's fastrack our AFP modernization!"

How "fast track" can you modernize the AFP. Can it be done in one year? No. So American presence is necessary until we get to that stage. Also, none of those countries you listed can win a war against China. What is needed here is regional cooperation like NATO. Even South Korea needs the U.S. because it can't win against NoKor/China combined. This is the reality, no amount of modernization is gonna make us a military power to rival China. But China also can't win a war against all of ASEAN combined.

It is very unlikely for a war to emerge from this standoff......For sure....China is also looking at its best interest........Most country knew that US is our Biggest and Closest ally.... And China wouldnt be as big as it is now, if not for the investment from other countries, mostly US based Company.....China definitely wouldnt lay a finger on our Coast Guard or Navy.....If they do, then it will be the end for their economy and Communism.....Its just a show-off.... Lets just pray that tension will ease down.....

My title is like this............ coz in the first place, Filipinos DON'T like them to be kicked out in our country it's only the DIRTY POLITICIANS.....and you know them in here......

There are 10 ships.........2 Warships.....and 8 fishing vessel right now...... so they were really getting Filipinos' nerves right now....For now our "Great Politicians" never even bother and I don't know why really coz for me this is a serious situation here.....
