CRITIQUE: Portraits Only!

kai nahan ku makat.un, bg.uhai pa ku ani.. studyante ku run sa fine arts cinema sa USC. heheh
elements amung concept, aku rani mga barkada. heheh
unta, kanang criticism nga constructive. lamat daan.

Natural Lighting
Canon 60D + 50mm

Here is my take,
1. The cross twigs in front distract me more on first image .
2. The over highlights (camera right) portions is a bit to much.
3. For me a yellow/green cast does not suit the image. Why not try a cooler tone?


For the second image:
1. The straw in-front of the face really distract me a lot.
2. The highlight on the forehead is a bit strong
3. I would suggest burning portions on the legs bit so that you have a gradual tone and its not competing attention on the face.

I saw the concept in your flickr page. The only thing I would suggest is create a color theme target on the different concepts you have to give it a more elemental feel.

1st. actually on the first image, a cooler tone was my inital idea, but had alternatives like the yellow-green cast and decided on it, i dont why. i kinda like it more. hahha
2nd. yeah forgot the other parts, was concentrating on the face.

Hmmmm..nag hulat ko sa uban mo critique pero murag wala pa man..so here is my take on this.

I believe your after for a photo-journalistic style of portraits. Well for me the first image quite sells the emotion I believe most people can relate to having traveling or being into a journey and I think its done what is suppose to do. The technicalities you mentioned is not actual that bad but it gave that photo its uniqueness.

The second photo does not say anything and for me this is a weak image.

The street style or photo-journalistic style photos implies emotion and has a story while the glamour/posed portraits implies beauty. I am very technical (lighting, shadows, background, etc.) on beauty and glamour shots but for photo-journalistic i look for emotion, composition and the story.

Just want to share a link an I think that might suits your kind of genre. What strikes me most is the topic about "Interesting vs Boring stories"

Well for me I refer candid photos that tell story more like Photojournalistic in nature. I'm always a fan of great artist like Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson.

Heheh, I can't comment on your PP kay murag hina pod ko anang field. If your interested in Post-processing I suggest try googling PSD Tuts. They have a vast array of tutorials.

I would also suggest viewing concepts made by Parc Cruz and Dexter Maneja.

morag naa something kulang master pranchiz. i think ang pag frame sa subject too far ra kaau sa taas nga portion. ambot sakto ba ko sa framing nga term.

I've noticed your shots since you started bai. I also follow your Google+ posts. I'm not a portrait photographer, I'm more into landscapes.

Pero I'm a big fan of szichri and nonac's work. And so far, this is the best post processing work I've seen from you. Keep this style up. I like it a lot. You just got a new fan.

I guess sakto sila uban nga composition-wise, there's some room for improvement. Overall, I say ok nani cya.
