sunstar's pachico seares wrote this today:
"Questions of privacy or obscenity are tackled differently in this dispute. Her parents sent their child not to a public school but to STC, accepting its values and its rules."
we can argue that the pictures may not be so obscene, etc, etc, etc. but the point is there were rules clearly written in the handbook and when you decide to go to a school you have to abide by those rules and carry the name of the school with utmost care. if you don't want to follow, then simply don't enroll in the school.
My wife and I talked about this case and we may be too old fashioned but I think the students were even lucky that they were able to graduate even if not allowed to take part in the graduation rites. . . during our time, that would be a slap on the wrist. My wife's batchmate was kicked out a few days before graduation for something less than this and the student and their parents accepted the school's verdict.
I am a parent now and the problems of facebook, formspring and other social networking sites are too evident: example: cyberbullying which has claimed deaths due to suicide.
In my opinion, we should take a more active role in disciplining our kids together with the school and accept punishments if rules were indeed broken. In this case, rules were indeed broken and the only contention of the students was that they were not given due process . . . which is even debatable and is now a subject of a court case.
