    Default Urbandub dissapreciation thread.

I get what you mean. Urbandub's music isn't really that easy to digest-- except maybe for songs such as "Gone" or "Soul Searching"- which obviously leans toward the hard rock category.

But I believe there are two kinds of bands with "hard to digest" music.

    1) Bands with bad songs. Bad lyrics, bad compositions. The more you listen, the more you dislike. An example is Coal Chamber's 2nd album "Chamber Music"- that album really sucked. It was a mess- composition and lyric-wise. Although their first album showed the band's talent in composing really neat beats and riffs, I still think their vocalist is the worst lyricist ever. hehe. They went downhill from there.

    2) Talented but diverse bands. This type often fails to capture your "taste" at the first listen. But actually, the more you'll listen, you'll eventually digest and like the music. Either you'll discover great lyrics, or instrumental prowess of the members... whichever.
At least to me, some examples of more or less popular albums are "Make Yourself" by Incubus, "Neon Ballroom" and "Diorama" by Silverchair, "Parachutes" by Coldplay.

I believe Urbandub also belongs to the latter.

With that said, all it needs is time for listening.

@Tingkagol: I agree about the albums you mentioned above man. Both Albums by Silverchair are Superb!!! as well as Coldplay's and Incubus'.

As for Urbandub, well, they are geniuses themselves.

Well its just a matter of opinion and taste as usual. We all have our biases. Some people pay attention to lyrics, arrangement, feel and artistic value. Me, Im more into the sound production and the technical aspect, including the difficulty level of how the instruments are played. Im more inclined to progressive music and mind boggling procedures. Urbandub sounds good and clear on CD. Esp the drums and guitars. The vocals are just fine. But Im not into their music. Ive heard tons of clones with the same idea and arrangement, only they sound better because of better production. Thats why I got confused when one said about the poor quality of their CD. My studiofriends here in Manila liked their sound. Try scoring an original CD and hear for yourself. It doesn't sound like it came from this country. But, I still don't dig their music. But I respect them for coming out with the sound.

this is shaping up to be one cool thread... this thread started out as people dissing u-dub for the wrong reasons... however, i see that a lot more sensible people are hanging out here... hehehe..

anyway, i meant that in the greatest respect... for those who don't like u-dub, i think the band would appreciate it more if you guys give more detailed reasons why you don't like the band because i think they can learn from your opinions too....

    hehehe..

Can you name some of those bands you were referring to?

Chee Vai, you remind me of someone. Someone who likes Dream Theater, Rush, Liquid Tension Experiment... the likes. These bands are all about technicality and difficulty of harnessing their individual instruments. BTW, I think Dream Theater is an awesome band, although I think Labrie can't sing. hehe

As cujo mentioned, can you cite facts why you don't like Urbandub's music? Is it the band's musical style or is it their lack of skill compared to- for instance, Dream Theater? hehe

Forget it. haha I think you don't need to explain yourself. Whatever happened to "I don't know why, but I don't like it". :P

I just find them mediocre, thats all. The arrangements are so predictable and it just doesnt work for me. But that doesnt matter. Theyre successful coz people liked them and I have no qualms about it. Ive seen them live and they play tight. This is their disappreciation thread so this is my only valid chance to voice out my opinion

And for the clones? You'll know... I dont feel like naming them. It's gonna offend coz most of em honestly think theyre different. Its still my opinion. This is not be all end all

[Hey, my name is Chee and Steve Vai's my god! ]

Name at least one. Or is it the label "emo" that makes these bands so similar?

But Im not into their music. Ive heard tons of clones with the same idea and arrangement, only they sound better because of better production.
Just wanted to confirm this. There's a difference between rushing into statements and providing the facts first.
