Though I think Mr Clavio's statements were unbecoming of an experienced journalist, I don't think they were racist. Racism refers to the belief that one's race is somehow superior to another. Saying "di na man sila Filipino," taken in context, no way implies that Filipinos are superior to others. The comment was more likely spoken out of frustration than bigotry, frustration on the fact Filipinos are treated as second-class citizens of world, even by the Filipinos themselves! Nationality is different from race by the way. One can have blue eyes, pointy nose, mayonnaise-colored skin and still carry the Filipino nationality in the eyes of the Law. Race is a far more complex matter though. Who exactly can be considered racially pure Filipino? Those of Indonesian or Malayan or Aboriginal (Negrito) heritage? How about a mixture of any of them? Or even a mixture of Spanish blood (which most of us probably have)?

Mr. Clavio's statement was out of line. He is entitled to his opinion but as a journalist he is there to report facts not his feelings or leanings. He is no racist though and with all the reports of the Azkals' arrogant behavior, his frustrations are not entirely unjustified.

if sexual harassment ra unta ang istoryaan ni clavio didto ra unta tuo. wa unta siya nagpamaymay ug sturya nga kayumanggi ang superior. kung maproven sa investigation nga tinuod ang allegations then by all means dapat ipriso. pero sakto ba to gibuhat ni clavio? da man to dumot ug insecurity.
