20 reasons why I didn't like the Philippines

Is it because the Filipino is worth dying for? Or is it because, only elephants never forget and people do?

I have asked myself many times: Is the Filipino worth suffering, or even dying, for? Is he not a coward who would readily yield to any colonizer, be he foreign or home-grown? Is a Filipino more comfortable under an authoritarian leader because he does not want to be burdened with the freedom of choice? Is he unprepared or, worse, ill-suited for presidential or parliamentary democracy? -Ninoy Aquino

Please, don't make it seem as if we're being bullied. No one's 'out to get us.' Dying? Really? Get off your soapbox.

Someone here pointed out that when we hear praise about this country, we like to inflate our sense of self worth. But when criticisms--which are perfectly valid and not without basis, are thrown at us--we have a hissy fit. In other words, it's fine and dandy for foreigners to heap praise on us, but they can't talk smack, is that right?

Filipinos are one of the very few people who take every slight, every verbal jab, every critique personally. We have a national inferiority complex, and it's evident when people like you rush to defend against foreigners who just happened to be telling the truth. At the end of the day, your efforts to 'stand up for your Filipino pride' are in vain. The status quo remains, and the Philippines is still a developing country. Best use your efforts to pay it forward and call for change instead.

You let it get to you. Instead of proving the guy wrong by doing things to make the Philippines a better place, you want to get revenge. Are you doing this for yourselves, or are you doing this for the welfare of Filipino people? I thought this was about improving the Philippines, not personal vendettas.

Plastic garbage and careless disposal of them in the video is a good reason why Cebu as a province should start discussing the act of banning plastic materials (at least plastic bags). The video's focus on plastic is a sensible slap on the face of the Philippine plastic industry.

Sorry, but I am a foreigner. Filipino AND American. Go ahead and try to point out how exploitative foreigners like us Americans are. Give me a list of what makes us so horrible. Because I'll tell you then like I'm telling you now; I'm not the same as other Americans. I don't feel the need to come knocking at your door to prove that I'm not like them, because in my heart, I know I'm not. I don't need to feel offended because what you say about Americans doesn't apply to me. I don't get angry and riled up. I know how some Americans can be. They're axxholes that think they can do whatever they want. But not all Filipinos think the way you think, and not all Americans think the way you think they think. My reputation and integrity as someone is both Filipino and American, and as a human being in itself, has nothing to do with what you think of this situation.

I came here to study, graduate, get a job, and I made the deliberate decision to stay in Cebu afterwards. I've seen the good and bad of both countries and I still love them. So don't point your anger at me, when you obviously have no idea who I am.
