Okay, these population maps show the world's prisoner population, and that's indeed all that you said they are. Okay, that's great.

Now please let me point out that a higher prisoner population does not necessarily equate to more "acts" commited in those countries. I use the word "acts" because the world is not governed by one set of laws and what might be a crime in one country, may not be a crime in another. So it's very difficult to say which acts are crimes in which country. Obviously, law enforcement and judicial systems are not similar (in many ways) in all countries either. Sometimes very far fom similar.
Again; more prisoners or a higher percentage of prisoners in a country, does not necessarily mean that there are more people (or a higher percentage of people) from that country commiting acts. Yes, it could be true that there are more people there commiting these acts, but you must also consider the other things that it could mean. It could mean that in those countries on the map colored "red", people commiting these acts are just caught, tried, and imprisoned for their acts more often and at a higher percentage. It could mean that some other governements are inefficient, or that they just don't prosecute or imprison people for the same acts as other countries do. It could mean so many things. It could also mean that there is a fine imposed instead of a prison sentence, and then they are set free to commit another act or not. It could mean that they don't want to spend more government or taxpayer money on feeding, clothing, and building prisons to shelter those people. There could be insufficient funding for proper law enforcement or judicial systems, or a high corruption rate within those systems.
Does anyone actually really believe that just over the borders of the countries colored "red" (on the maps)... that there is "that much" of a percentage drop in people commiting those acts (if there is any drop at all)? That would mean, then, that because you live in a certain country, you are more likely to commit these acts. No, I really don't think so. As for me, I feel safer walking the streets where people who commit those acts are placed where they belong, and that's in prison.

Just my 2 peso opinion, which is actually valued higher now than at this time last year...heheh!
