    Many practices follows the breeding of the bitch around its 2nd or 3rd heat and the raionale behind this is that , the maturity of the bitch comes along with it in terms of the responsibilities to its pups .

    Anyone can vouch this or correct , add more information ?

    thats very true sir springfield. lahi ra dyud ug motherly instinct ang mature dogs. ang 3rd or later heat ang preferrable dyud. younger than that, kiat pay gi huna huna sa dams. its more of a headache on the owners side

    In the dog show world, there is a very strict planning, preparation, and research in terms of breeding. We always believe, although it may not be true to all, that good show pups will likely come out if the bitch and the stud have grown to its fullest maturity. For us, 2-3 years old can be too young for the bitch and the stud. However, this is not absolute. Bitches in their 2nd to 3rd heat can still produce quality pups, provided a careful selection of the stud was done, as well as intensive research on the history of the ancestors of the sire and dam. This may be far out to many, but this is how we do it. Otherwise, we will be wasting our time, money and effort in the breeding process.

    Nevertheless, PCCI's only requirement is that both sire and dam should not be less than 8 months old. And this is usually the practice of many. We do it in fact in our working dogs. What we are after is the drive to work, not its conformation.

    @Ironwood,

    If bitches become "bad moms," I am sure it goes back to their owner who did not raise, train and socialize them well.

    So, I realized that's what you meant by being a "bad mom." It goes without saying then that if the bitch behaves that way, she is not yet prepared. But most of the time, owners want to have them produce puppies because there's money in it. That is unfair to the dogs whom people proudly consider as man's best friend. Puppy mill begins here.
