I'm not hi-jacking your thread, TS We're still talking about good ventilation. What I noticed most about the heat is they go up around the drive bay area beside the PSU. I guess that's normal since it is already the opposite side of the exhaust fan and the hot air get pushed even further to that side by the side fan. And if the HD is there, the temp could go 48c. Maybe not in ATX cases, but in mATX, it will. My not so cool temporary solution is taking out the drive bay covers, and so are all the dusts and small spiders are free to go in also.

I'm not sure about those coolers that sticks on the HD, I read they create vibration that could damage the drive.

This one is nice, but never seen it here, not even in TPC.


I know, I know, if I only would get an ATX case, I won't have this problem. But I need this pc to be small for traveling purposes, so I'm sticking with my lowly mATX case.

i myself don't have any experience on those HDD coolers that would be attached on the HDD bottom too. i just found those at New Egg CN and its out of stock as of the moment... my mATX case used on the MoDT rig has a cooler for the HDD similar to the one you posted. it was included during the case purchase...

regarding hot air accumulating besides the PSU, most of the time, it would be sucked up by the psu fan (specially on those psu designs with bottom fans)... but for the mid-tower chassis with exhaust fan on top, this would be no problem. i also find chassis that would house the psu on the bottom portion w/ exhaust fan(s) on top worked great in dispersing hot air... since hot air goes up and would be sucked up by the top exhaust fans...

I'd like to add also the factor of dust getting into the case.

Personally I go for positive are pressure. example: my case manufacturers fan setup recommends 140mm + 120mm fans as intake and another pair (of the same sizes) as output = which will create balanced or near balanced pressures.

Unfortunately dust will build up with negative pressure = more output than intake fans, as well as balanced pressure. which in turn builds up dust in the case, the fans, which will lead to poor cooling performance overtime, as well as risk for corroding the components.

positive air pressure on the otherhand keeps dust out at the sacrifice of a few degrees hotter temps, which will give you less maintenance (cleaning) times. and more times to use your machine.

Nice boss! excellent point to consider... Air Pressure. which needs to be balanced from intake air to exhausted air. So based from my guide as 51cfm as an example exhaust fan, you may need a 51cfm air intake fan.

Lastly...Dust Build-up. So fellow istoryans, lets keep our room/area clean. Mag-hinay2x natag limpyo sa atong palibot kai for sure in time, madamay ang atong toys.

nya basta tapolan.. 1yr cguro..
or mka overhaul ra bsta naa bag.o nga ibutang/ipuno/kuhaon sa sulod..

naa lang koy additional info, kung di gyud malikayan ang dust particles ug cobwebs on your precious PC`s while maintaining low temperatures, or kung pariha sa akong kwarto sauna nga didto ko mag grinder ug metals parts, welding, etc hehehe palit mo ug 1/2 HP aircon nya i house (concealed) inyong PC didto, in that way wa gyuy problema sa contaminants inyong mga PC, but in exchange pud ang power cost 4 PHP per hour, (12 PHP per kilowatt hour)

naa pay lain ts na huna2x when it comes to ventilation. Aside from the fan, choosing the right case for your system is also crucial in keeping ur rig well ventilated.
