Whats more absurd to me is that your finding results of a non exsisting hardware ( to consumers ) absurd. I mean do you know the real benchmark results of the R600 then ?

OT:

I sure wish brisbane comes thru, but hearing the initial testing results they arnt that impressive...(yet)
and AMD is having issues with their 65nm process, while intel is already testing 45nm

I haven't had seen any bencmark from R600 except from level505, but I do have lots of benchmarks with g80 and its seems fishy on some results compare to level505. Otherwise if somebody could tell what is like a real or hoax benchmark, I am willing to give this to him or her .I like watching benchmark and I'm quite sure of what i have seen. I am having problem with my net connection so I could not show some benchmarks here. Maybe next time If my line is fixed.

I hear that as well that they have a problem with brisbane coz there were some unofficial rumor that nobody can really confirmed regarding the core voltage I think, stability problem. I'm glad that they know that they had a problem before they market the chip rather than knowing after they market the chip. It is good news for me coz it is a sign that they really know what they're doing. They still have time to correct it and improved their mpu. otherwise its a waste of my money coz I really do wait for it, I can't help it, LOL.

Do you realize even a 7950GX2 as CPU power increases the performance also increases on low res testing, thats also true even on a mere 7900GT.. if your taking CPU bottlenecking on a tight stand then theres no CPU out there even fit for a 7900GT =P

Simply put it that the 8800GTX does not require the fastest CPU around but it can scale well, saying that its useless to get a 88000GTX because you dont have the fastest processor around is just plain wrong, even on a 4400xX2 from a GX2 to a 8800GTX performance increase is massive.. specially when AA+AF is added.
And besides i would favor a E6400 running at 500*7 rather than a stockspeed for a quadcore.

I agree that x2 4400 from a GX2 to a 8800GTX performance increase is massive but not as much as conroe. The point is, if somebody would only buy this gpus(g80,r600), it would be best to get the best rig for this monster to fully utilize its capability (maybe thats what the expert suggest). Otherwise, get the 7950gx2 or 1950xtx coz we all know that these gpus are enough to run @1600x1200 resolution with the existing game titles nowadays. Coz in my opinion, it would be best to have this very expensive card to fully utilize coz for me, its a waste of my money not to (definitely not x2 4400, E6600 is fine, brisbane if the bechmark is impressive(i cross my finger till then)). Then if somebody would ask me, why fully utilize the card while it is more than enough. Then maybe I will ask President George Bush why send probes to MARS or to JUPITER or SATURN? or ask intel why making quadcore? or ask Lockheed why build F117 or F22? Definitely E6600 will not fully utilize the card but at least maybe it will utilize 70-80% of its horsepower.

Yes, and those buying a 8800GTX isnt stuck with a crappy single core.. at least not for long.. most of them are enthusiasts who already have C2D's that run at 3.5 ~ 4.0Ghz

The E6600 fully utilizing a 8800GTX is subjective to the game in testing.. some games are more GPU bound like Oblivion and FEAR, other are CPU bound like Farcry and HL2


Heres something to think about if indeed the 8800GTX IS CPU limited, then why does going SLI gain 90~100% in framerates, if the CPU isnt fast enough to feed the GPU with data then there should be next to zero increase on SLi, I would think of this as CPU scalability.. even though thats co-related with CPU bottlenecking.


And of course lets not forget if the game is CPU bound indeed then you wont see very high MAX fps number, but still if you are rendering at 60fps i dont see any single need for more, 1600x1200 with 4xAA and 16x HQ-AF would not be a hard task for a 3500+ 8800GTX

You may search futuremark's ORB for a 3500+ w/ a 8800GTX, ive seen a few results there.. altho scores are not pretty good but still its a health 6.8k to 7k ( they are losing out almost 2.3k points on the CPU test )

In the end the 8800TX is still a good performer despite the processor its paired with, as compared to speding 33k on a new processor/mobo/ram
