The article talks about inside jobs and incompetence from ML and Xoom but it ignores one possible angle of the whole incident: Phishing/Hacking. In short, error on the part of the customer.
The writer in no way explores the possibility that there was a mistake on their part. A hacked account is not impossible in this scenario.
The hacker sees the deposit, reroutes the funds to another place and person and all of this will happen as a "valid" transaction. Ergo, the author's Xoom account was used the whole time. Xoom and ML wouldn't know any better.
Inside job? Most likely, but it is also more plausible the inside job happened in the author's own doorstep or computer for that matter.
As of the moment all i see is a glorified account of the "katangahan" of the author.
