south bus terminal to tan-awan, oslob(ceres aircon) 155
whalesharkl watching ticket 300
resort fee 50
lifevest 20
snorkel 100
tan-awan to south bus 155
total 780
ang resort fee kay depende sa resort nga inyong sudlan.naay uban tag 100. nagtupad lang ng mga resort dha sa tan-awan para sa whaleshark watching. pwede ra ka mamili. mada ra gyud kaayo ug one day ang imong pag-adto. mosayo lang jud ka para makauna ka ug tan-aw. kadtong kami, we rode the first trip ceres aircon bus from the south bus terminal at around 3am. ning-abot mi sa tan-awan, oslob mga 5:45am. nahuman mi ug tan-aw mga 9am pa lng. pwede ra ka maligo didto or magtambay2x. dayon nangadto mi sa poblacion around 12noon. nagsuroy2x mi sa Cuartel ug Baluarte. naa na sa likod sa ilang simbahan. nindot sad tambayan didto kay daplin sa dagat. the place is very suitable for picnics. unya nisakay mi ug bus pauli around 3pm.ning-abot mi sa south bus terminal mga 6pm. it was a wonderful trip and a very nice experience!
I went back to Oslob yesterday with some guests and it was utter chaos. Too many people and their system was not working at all. arrived at 6am but had to line up for over an hour to get the tickets and about 4 1/2 hours before we were actually able to swim with the whale sharks. Their were over 500 people there. We were the 64th group to buy tickets and there were 14 in our group. They served at least 100 groups so at an average of just 6 people per group only, that already makes 600 people. There are not enough facilities to support such a large number of people.
They have built new toilets in the place we stayed at but it was not nearly enough and of very poor quality and were hopefully just temporary. I did see some construction going on so hopefully these are proper toilets and several of them. All the more I understand why some costs are going up. I really believe that they (the resorts and town officials) have to get their act together.
One suggestion I would strongly make is to increase the price to this activity only for weekends and holidays and invest the extra revenue in better facilities (toilets, cottages, chairs, food and drink outlets, etc.) as well as develop a better system for dealing with so many guests.
Fishermen should also be encouraged to invest in bigger bancas that could accommodate between 3 - 6 people each. This way, capacity will be increased with less boats in the water and small groups can now watch together.
So many other little things could be improve here, but these are what I believe is the most basic and important. Having said all that, even with all the problems we encountered yesterday, having the opportunity to swim with the whale sharks and spend time with these magnificent gentle giants in their natural habitat is a priceless experience that is more that worth all the expense and difficulties we went through. Or you could just go on a regular weekday and have almost no waiting time....
