[QUOTE=penfires;11857504]I was at the fluvial, daghan tao yes but most of those who woke up early to attend I think it's because of devotion. You can really feel the desire to see, wave, praise the Sto Nino as the boat carrying it niagi ubos sa bridge. It's something I can't explain.Ang uban okay ra sila as long as they can gaze sa boat carrying the image of the Sto Nino.

Before you comment anything not worthwhile, be there where the flow is. I, for one, prepare myself for the solemn procession by fasting without food or water for the whole day. I get dazed sometimes but my devotion prevailed and I do this every year. You will shudder each time the devotees wave, dance, shout and chant by the roadside as the carroza of our dear Sr. Sto. Nino pass by them. I walk under the heat of the sun or get drowsed by heavy rain but I have no complaints. Who am I to question that divine prerogative?

Regarding tradition or competition; the idea of competition was formulated to marshal and manage the event in its proper perspective. I don't have beef if it's done commercially, but during the early stages of the Sinulog, everyone were free to present. dance or join the mardi gras without the benefit of registering himself/herself/themselves to the affair. I remembered in 1984 when my unregistered contingent passed before the judge's bleacher and the presentor/announcer was at a loss of word of how to welcome our appearance before them. It was good at those early years but it is not nice to the image of the Sinulog and Cebu as a whole.

The individual participants of a contingent are there on their own. It is personal. The perks that come after are just the result of their industry; their devotion to give their all before the Sr. Sto. Nino. VIVA PIT SENYOR!

The religious tradition is during the solemn procession which is held on a Saturday. If the Sinulog is based only on the Sunday activity, then you might have a reason there but the religious tradition is on the Saturday. Period.

I am one of the lucky ones to actually witness how the Sinulog started it all .

How the Landonian Tribe made it to the hall of fame status and created the beat which is the beat used by the drummers now .

To sum it all up , the TRADITION and COMPETITION issue is being opined by the very individual who witnesses the event . Not by the City govt. , not by Ricky Ballesteros , not by the management of the respective presentors , not by the media and most specially not by the celebrity guest we have here but from the very people who believes , adores and devotes to STO. NINO de CEBU .

Faith and devotion is good, but what's more important is the basis of your faith/devotion. Maski unsa pa ka lig.on imong pagtuo, kung imong gituhuan dili mao, di gyud siya mashimong sakto, diba? Basta be safe na lang to all mu-join sa festivities. Daghan na bati na news ako nadungog over the weekend. Daghan na gyud maldito dire. May God help Cebu.

    Pit Senyor!
So therefore converting them using pagans practice is an idolatrous mockery of the true death and resurrection of Jesus Christ .. you cannot mixed Paganism and Chriistianity ...

Isaiah 42:8 says, “ I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.”

Dili mo sugot ang Ginoo nga naay ka share iyahang pangalan ....

"LORD" denotes master or ruler ... that is why we call Him "Jesus is Lord, Lord God etc ...." the message cleary states that God does not want Hes name to be shared with the Sto. Nino ( "baby jesus kuno" ) ... Sto Nino is an Idol ...
