dude, there is no hegemony if you're only talkin about a national context...but taken as a global perspective, hegemony is the result of capitalism...where capitalism came from free market. there is no centralized authority internationally, the UN, NATO, IMF and ASEAN is not a body of government to give mandate policies to selected people...world policies only exist when there is a stipulation from interested parties. people influencing the world market is a highly dangerous act, this time around is not the oldies anymore who has known nothing about technology. politically, there's not in the world that doesn't have a semi-centralized to centralized government. africa may perhaps has a faction.

Hahaha, indeed. They're talking merely about the philosophy and ideas of Capitalism in our country to address this issue.

There might be no hegemony in how you wish to describe it in our country, but there are traces or mirrors of it with the same effect as domination. There are plans for unifying several countries under one authority like EU, then the proposed Amero, and there were talks about Asia being unified as well... These are steps closer for one single authority. Hegemony is the result of authorities intervening into the free market and into the liberties of the people. That's why people should be vigilant in fighting the signs of creeping domination of any authority.

With the issues of UN, NATO, World Bank, IMF, etc... these are hegemonies in their own rite as they command a great deal of influence into foreign economies.

im with you when speaking of dominance...but in some point, in a realists view, hegemony is there to balance the free market...without balance, uhm i think this world wouldve come to its end already. dominance and hegemony, there is order and stability although i admit that it's drawbacks are resentment and revolution due to oppression. but that won't happen as long as everything is distributed equally..

To balance the free market? That is impossible with someone doing the balancing... You must remember, hegemonies/government are composed of people too, and are subjected to greed... How could they perform the job of balancing better than the rest of the people? They can't...but they will do what's "good" for the people...regardless of the consequences...

I do not believe in equal distribution... It violates freedom. It can only achieved by taking something from those who are more productive and giving it to others who are less productive... Any society who aims for equality rather than liberty, will have neither... But any society who aims for liberty first will have more measure of both.

it's called status quo because that's what's in front of your eyes...many people have philosophies in mind, but deep inside they're the conservatives.
